Summary2011-2022 F-Super Duty and 2016-2023 F-650/F-750 vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine may exhibit an elevated idle condition. During prolonged idle time, vehicles may experience this elevated idle to reduce unburned hydrocarbons from the SCR. The powertrain control module estimates hydrocarbon levels in the SCR and may increase idle speed to remove them. Idle speed will be increased to 1000 RPM for ambient temperatures near 26°C (80°F) and may increase to 1200 RPM at -40 °C (-40°F). Vehicles may exhibit exhaust smoke and diesel exhaust fluid smell during elevated idle condition. Exhaust smoke and smell condition will not affect reliability or durability of the engine. Power take-off (PTO) use and idle set point control will disable elevated speed. It is required that the operator monitor the vehicle and adhere to any Exhaust Filter warning messages.

SummarySome 2020-2022 F-Super Duty pickup vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine and built on or before 23-Sep-2021 may exhibit a thump/whine/knock noise from the fuel tank at idle or during key on, engine off (KOEO) after performing TSB 21-2057. The noise may be more pronounced at fuel levels at or below 1/4 tank. This may be due to the fuel pump. To correct the condition, replace the fuel pump and sender assembly with service part HC3Z-9H307-AR for vehicles with 160/164 inch wheelbase and a midship fuel tank, HC3Z-9H307-AQ for vehicles with 142/148 inch wheelbase and a midship fuel tank, and HC3Z-9H307-AS for vehicles with an aft of axle fuel tank. For claiming, use causal part 9H307 and applicable labor operations in Section 08 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

SummarySome 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 10R140 automatic transmission may exhibit harsh reverse to drive engagements without diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). This may be due to sticking valves in the main control valve body or suspect input shaft seals (F9) and the output shaft seals (F10). To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to perform the transmission accelerated main control break-in routine for the E and F clutches and/or replace the input shaft seals (F9) and the output shaft seals (F10).

SummarySome 2021 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L engine and built on 07-Jul-2021 and through 11-Jul-2021 may have previously not properly completed powertrain control module (PCM) reprogramming or programmable module installation (PMI) resulting with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U029E. PCM reprogramming and PMI for these vehicles has been updated in the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) scan tool. Programming no longer attempts to incorrectly program the nitrogen oxides sensor module 12 (NOX12) and should not result in a U029E DTC present. For vehicles that already have a U029E DTC present, NOX12 module replacement is necessary before attempting PCM programming.

SummarySome 2021 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with the 10R140 transmission and built on 01-Jun-2021 and through 31-Jul-2021 may exhibit no forward or reverse engagement with 3 or more clutch stuck off diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) at one time, DTCs - P0751, P0756, P0761, P0766, P0771, P2707, P0741, and/or P0868. This may be due to the fluid pump gasket delaminating. If the current accelerated main control break in procedure SSM does not address the concern, make sure that the fluid pump gasket is inspected when the main control is removed. If the gasket is damaged, then proceed with replacing the gasket and reinstalling the main control. If the gasket is not damaged, then continue with the main control inspection as directed by the appropriate SSM.

SummarySome 2020-2022 F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit a condition where the engine will not turn off and/or have various electrical symptoms including a dead battery, horn stays on and no crank/no start. The vehicle may also have an illuminated anti-lock braking system (ABS) indicator with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) C0020 and U3003 in the ABS module. The vehicle may not shift out of park (P) and/or have continuously illuminated brake lamps with DTCs P0504 and/or C0040. This may be a result of water/moisture intrusion into the battery junction box (BJB). The BJB is located under the hood of the vehicle. This water/moisture intrusion may be related to the BJB cover not installed completely or broken cover tabs/locking fingers allowing water/moisture into the BJB. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure steps to inspect for water/moisture intrusion into the BJB and replace the BJB if water/moisture intrusion is found.

SummarySome 2017-2022 F-Super-Duty vehicles equipped with a 6.7L diesel engine may exhibit a hard start, lack of power and/or runs rough concern with an illuminated malfunction indicator light (MIL) and diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0087 and/or P008A. This may be due to low fuel level or fuel gelling in cold ambient temperatures. If no root cause is determined after normal Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) pinpoint test MA, recommend that the customer use a different brand of fuel and use Motorcraftî PM-23-A Diesel Fuel Anti-Gel and Performance Improver. Inform the customer that bio-diesel blended fuels have a higher occurrence of fuel gelling. Fuel gelling and or low fuel conditions causing a P0087 and/or P008A is not covered under warranty.

SummarySome 2021 F-Super Duty vehicles equipped with a 10R140 transmission may exhibit harsh or delayed engagement/shift concerns. Most concerns may be addressed with the PCM/TCM Transmission Accelerated Main Control Break In Routine. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01, DTC Chart and/or Diagnosis By Symptom to identify the clutch(s) to be cycled. This routine cycles the shift solenoids and clutch control valves to remove contamination that may be sticking the valves and must be performed along with an adaptive learning drive cycle before attempting internal service. Although this routine was originally developed for low mileage vehicles, it has proven effective for resolving many shift and engagement symptoms across the life of the vehicle. For claiming, use causal part 7A100 and applicable labor operations in Section 7 of the Service Labor Time Standards Manual.
