What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - The transmission was jerking forward and taking a long time to shift. Including not shifting out of 3rd gear and almost locking tires when coming to a stop. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - Pulling out onto a highway with little then getting stuck in 3rd gear. Cars had to make quick reactions because my car would not go. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - yes, I have had it looked at by Certified Ford technicians. They say the transmission should be replaced, and that this is a widespread problem with Ford F150s and other models that use their 10-speed transmission. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - Ford Dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - No warning lights, no check engine, nothing.

I was driving on a congested thoroughfare during rush hour on a Friday night. My truck became unresponsive and the steering wheel locked up. The truck made a screeching stop. With over 100 cars behind me honking. I was unable to drive car off the road shoulder in a safe location. The cars electrical system when dead. With very limited battery life on my phone, I worked to to solve this problem. Luckily I had a few tools in the truck and was able to dismantle the all of the underdash plastic and metal components in about 1 hr with cachophany of honking and yelling with ever car. No stopped to help. I had to push the vehicle approx a quarter of a mile on a moderate incline and jump in the cab without power steering and coast down a side street. I had to learn how to put the car in neutral this way to move. This is Friday night and unable to get a towing service provider to my location, I had to wait in a lesser than desirable neighborhood until 2:30 am to get the car to my place residence. This was one of the scariest and deadliest incidents I have ever had in a motor vehicle. I am deathly afraid this will reoccur on a highway with fatal consequences.

Since purchasing the vehicle the infotainment system has and always been substandard. Which is very frustration when your purchasing a new truck. There seem to be many glitches to the system and never reacted the same way twice when I had to reprogram it every time I got into the vehicle. It became an unreliable way to communicate and very unsafe. I felt very insecure using the system knowing that I would have to readjust or touch the infotainment to make it work had to pull over on the side of the road a lot. I believe that this product is completely faulty and could have been a fatal flaw for Many f150 drivers.

I was stopped at a traffic light and all of a sudden my rear window exploded. It sent glass forward richoceting of the front windshield into my eyes. It was like a gun shot was fired into my truck. This caused me to have post traumatic stress. This and the fact that no one believed me that the rear window spontaneously exploded. Since my care was paid for, the window was paid out of pocket adding insult to injury

Subject: Urgent Resolution Required for Defective 2018 Ford F150 Truck Dear [Dealership Manager/General Manager], I am writing to express my profound disappointment and frustration with the 2018 Ford F150 truck I purchased from your dealership five months ago. Despite being certified pre-owned by Ford, the vehicle has been plagued by significant mechanical issues, primarily excessive oil consumption, leading to engine and transmission failure. This situation is deeply troubling, as it not only poses a major safety concern but also represents a significant financial burden and inconvenience. Despite repeated attempts to address these issues through servicing at Ford Sawgrass, the truck has been deemed unserviceable, necessitating a new engine and transmission. My efforts to seek resolution from Ford Motor Company have been met with indifference, as they have cited a third-party warranty that allegedly supersedes their responsibility. Similarly, Grieco Ford of Delray Beach has been unresponsive to my complaints, citing the "as is" nature of the sale. I am requesting immediate action from Ford Motor Company to rectify this situation, including providing a new engine and transmission or compensating Sawgrass Ford for the necessary repairs. This defect in the 5.0 Coyote engine constitutes consumer fraud, and I expect Ford to take full ownership and accountability for it. I trust that both Ford Motor Company and the NHTSA will uphold their integrity and address this matter promptly. Please consult with Jonathan in the service department at Sawgrass Ford (Tel: 954-851-9000) to expedite the resolution process. I appreciate your urgent attention to this matter and look forward to a swift and satisfactory resolution. You can reach me at [XXX] or via email at [XXX] . Sincerely, INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

see NTSHA report of technical service bulletin. This describes exactly the issue. As a result, the timing chain has been diagnosed as stretched due to the cam phaser issue. From what I understand, the safety concern is that the timing chain, if left undiagnosed/unrepaired can cause engine failure, loss of control etc. Ford has attempted to fix the VCT (Variable camshaft timing. [XXX] . the below is Ford's TSB issued 04May2023 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 3.5L EcoBoost - Cold Start Ticking/Tapping/Rattle With Possible No Restart During Auto-Start-Stop Operation 23-2143 04 May 2023 This bulletin supersedes 22-2200. NOTE: Certain parts may now be reused for this repair. Refer to the Service Procedure for details. Issue: Some 2017-2020 F-150 and 2018-2020 Expedition/Navigator vehicles built on or before 30-Nov-2019 and equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a ticking/tapping or rattle type noise from the top front cover area of the engine on initial start-up after a cold soak of 6 hours or more that may last for 2-5 seconds. Some vehicles may also exhibit an intermittent condition with no auto restart during auto-start-stop operation with or without diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P164C present in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to a worn variable camshaft timing (VCT) unit. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the VCT units. Ford has a known motor defect with 2018-2020 F150 pickups with coyote engine. In my case at 57k miles dealer determined I need a new engine due to this oil consumption issue caused by the costing they sprayed on the motor cylinders. Searching the internet thousands of this model have same issue and ford refuses to recall it. In fact I am having issues even getting Ford to cover it under warranty. While I jave not experienced a safety issue yet, if the motor seizes while on the highway it is highly likely to cause a safety risk. Fords fix as indicated by attachment is to extend the dipstick so you put additional oil(takes 10 qts by default so requiring more) to hide the issue from consumers. Their goal for sure is to hide the issue from consumers until out if warranty.

Hello, The suspension on this truck is coil (spring) over the shock. The spring just sheared sitting in my driveway under no load what-so-ever. This could have easily caused an accident and somebody could have been killed. I googled this and did find another incident of this exact thing happening to the same year/model truck. The vehicle is at the dealer service department now. There were no warning at all before this happened and this truck has been "babied" for its whole life. I do have photos....but my phone will not send them right now for some reason. Thanks!

While approaching a highway exit ramp I felt a brief loss of power. At the light at the end of the exit ramp the truck would not move. Engine RPMs increased but the truck only rolled forward on a slight decline. After a brief period, the transmission engaged with a loud bang. No check engine light was illuminated at this time. The truck was brought to a transmission shop where they found no faults or computer codes. A service (fluid and filter) was completed. It was notice over the next few weeks that the truck would drop in and out of gear at highway speeds. The check engine light came on over this time period. The truck was brought to a Ford dealer and diagnosed with a CDF Clutch Cylinder problem per TSB 24-2101. As the truck is out of warranty with approx 87,000 miles, I was told I would be responsible for this repair. Why is Ford allowed to ignore what is a potential safety issue with this transmission? If this was known it should have been replaced in the warranty period, or a recall issued. In this specific case there was no incident with another vehicle or vehicles.

Three occurrences within a week, low oil pressure and check engine light illuminated on 2018 F-150. Twice at cruising speed (20-50 mph) and once when accelerating(60-70mph) to pass. When accelerating to pass, light(s) illuminated, and experience a temporary loss of power. Took vehicle for inspection and notified vehicle was 6 quarts low. Vehicle had last had oil change approx. 5,000 miles before incident, and had no evidence of leaking. I was given a copy of TSB 19-2365(Excessive Oil Consumption) and advised to see dealer. Dealer stated this was a known issue, even though not widely published/disseminated . Dealer charged for performing maintenance under TSB and advised to return in 3,000 miles.
