My 2018 Ford F150 with the 2.7L V6 Ecoboost and 10R80 10 speed automatic transmission was purchased used with around 50k miles on it. At approximately 100K miles the transmission started acting funny. After taking off from a stop with the transmission in 1st gear, as it went to shift up to the 2nd gear, the truck would rev as if it was in neutral with no power, then eventually slam violently into gear to the point where the tires would squeal. This is obviously dangerous as it is unpredictable and could cause the vehicle to lurch and hit another object uncontrollable. Especially in low speed areas such as parking lots. The truck had several CEL lights on including P0761. My research found several TSB's for the transmission usually indicated the CDF drum was the failure. I made an appointment with a local ford dealer and explained the circumstances to recreate the issue as it mostly occurred when the vehicle was cold. After $150 fee they told me they could not recreate it and no issue was obvious to them. I eventually went to a transmission specialist who confirmed the CDF drum was slipping and ended up paying $7,000 out of pocket to get it fixed.

Transmission failure. When going into second gear the truck would start to stall for a brief minute before shifting into next gear. This was causing harsh, and delayed shifting. Never got into an accident, but majority of the time the shifting delays would happen when turning or getting up to 35 MPH. When this occurred the truck would stall which would cause cars following stopping fast and could have caused a fender bender. Truck was taken into a ford dealer. They updated PCM trans software update- that did not fix it. They then recommend total body value replacement which was done. That did not fix it. Now they are recommending total transmission replacement with cost at $10K. The wrench light would come on every time a bad shift would occur. Dealer admitted that they have been doing total value body replacements left and right with known transmission issues with 2018 F150.

My 2018 Ford F-150 XLT truck has a 10R80 10 speed transmission with 83,500 miles and the transmission is not shifting correctly. I can’t pull out into traffic most of the time because it does not go into the next gear correctly, which is 2nd thru 7th gear. It seems to work better once it’s driven for a while every time I drive it.

The Cam phasers on this vehicle are defective. This will be my third cam phasers in less than 3 years. The Cam Phasers cause the emissions to fail and can also cause unsafe driving such as the first time they failed while driving on the highway. I have brought this to the attention of the dealership numerous times and they say they can't duplicate it, even though it makes the noise when turning on the car or idling every time. They finally admitted this past visit to the Mall of Georgia Ford that it is an issue and a known recurring issue with this vehicle. I see the issue reported online, Ford Facebook pages, blogs, etc with thousands of people experiencing the same unsafe issue with both emissions and driving safety. Please advise.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rear driver's and passenger's side doors latches independently unlocked and the driver's and passenger's rear doors swung open. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent at first but had become persistent. The contact stated that the failure occurred after the vehicle was taken through the car wash. The contact, who is an independent mechanic, diagnosed the cause of the failure as moisture inside the door wells. The contact used bungy cords to prevent the doors from swinging open. Cam phasers, turbos, exhaust manifolds. Cam phasers failed in the truck and started to make are really bad rattling noise on the cold start. After it warmed up it had the sound of a diesel engine. Mechanics said this an issue with this vehicle and only has a TSB put out for it. Mechanic stated if it wasn’t repaired could cause further damage to the engine due to metal pieces from cam phasers. Exhaust manifolds are warped and created a leak. Could smell exhaust from the leak and needed to be replaced. Turbos where leaking oil as well, truck doesn’t tow any type of trailer or heavy weight. Mechanic stated this is also a common issue with these trucks. All repairs where done within a month of each other. Mechanic also stated that the transmissions in these trucks have issues. Slipping gears, hard shifting etc. my vehicle is showing some signs of these issues. But doesn’t seem to be as concerning at this time. Could be a issue in the future

The transmission was up-shifting from 1st gear to 3rd, then from 6th gear to 8th, then from 8th gear to 10th gear without any increased gas pedal pressure. While at a stop sign and having my foot applied to the brake pedal, the transmission was jumping and jerking the truck forward to move! I had to put my foot harder on the brake pedal to keep the truck from moving into the intersection! I called the dealership and they advised me not to drive our truck, due to possible more damage to the transmission. The dealership told us that it might just be a programming/software issue, that a possible re-flashing of the transmission might be the issue. That the vehicle starts to learn how you drive? We were first charged a service fee to diagnose this transmission about $250.00. I was worried that I would rear end someone, due to this transmission trying to force me forward at every stop! While driving, it was doing a jerking motion that was very forceful. This should be a nationwide recall due to this transmission not responding correctly and possibly causing a serious vehicle accident, not by an operator error! Our mileage was at 48,203 miles when we took it to the dealership. The powertrain is for 5 years or 60,000 miles. We paid $3,520.00 + the $250.00 to diagnose. Ford paid $2,880.00 due to the low mileage and it just ran out of warranty. If you notice any unexplained jerking motion while driving get it checked out ASAP!
