- #11711879January 19, 2026AIR BAGS
We were involved in a car accident. We ran into the back of a pickup truck that suddenly stopped on the toll road for another car that was in an accident. Our front end of the car was heavily damaged. Our concern is that our air bags did not deploy. With the amount of damage that our car received why did the air bags not deploy. The state trooper the did the report looked into the car and wondered the same thing. I will attach pictures. We are taking into the body shop tomorrow. They said it maybe two weeks before they start on it. The seat belts saved our lives. The air bags did not. We are taking into the body shop tomorrow. There were no warning signs before the accident.

While driving earlier in the day, the car choked twice at different times but continued normally. Later in the evening, I left my carport and while driving down the street the check engine light came on and the car choked again like it wanted to cut off but didn’t. I immediately turned around and went home. Not sure what’s going on. I checked my car manual and it says it might have something to do with the fuel system. I don’t know what steps to take next.

I purchased a brand new 2026 Chevrolet Equinox Sport Utility on 8/22/2025. 4 weeks later the front end started leaking oil. It has been back to the dealership 4 times for repairs, including replacing the engine. After all these attempts to fix the oil leak it continues to leak oil and we are waiting for the dealer to pick it up again. We are not sure if it is safe to drive but the dealer says to keep driving it. No warning lamps or system messages were triggered during this entire time.

My Onstar module and Telematics is not working and Chevy/GM is trying to refuse to fix it and claim it's due to not having the Onstar internet plan. If that was the case it would never work, yet it works some days then other days it shows me in another city. My Google assistance will show not connected when Google maps doesn't work. I've only had this car since April 2025. This needs to become a recall. GM can't keep doing this to their customers.

Engine stalled possibly due to a faulty fuel pump. I was able to drive the vehicle without issue until I pulled up to my house, when the engine stalled. No warning signs prior to the incident. Proceeded to put the vehicle in park and start the engine again. The engine had trouble starting again, sputtering even when the gas pedal was pressed (no response to the gas pedal). No sound comes from the fuel pump when trying to start. Battery in good condition. Lucky vehicle did not stall while driving down the road at 60 mph. Vehicle will have to be towed to a mechanic.

GOT THE EQUINOX BRAND NEW ON MARCH 2025. FEW WEEKS LATER HAD TO TAKE IT TO SERVICE/DEALER WITH BACKUP CAMERA PROBLEMS AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT STARTED TO HAVE SPEAKERS ISSUES DUE TO A VERY LOUD HUMMING SOUND WHILE DRIVING. ALSO WINDOW FROM DRIVERS SIDE RUNS SLOWER THAN THE REST OF WINDOWS. THE VISIBILITY THROUGH FRONT GLASS IS NON EXISTENT WHEN RAINING DUE TO THE ANGLE. TRANSMITION STARTED SLIPPING AND STARTED TO HAVE A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT POP UP AND HAD TO TAKE IT TO SERVICE AGAIN... AND FINALLY AT THE BEGGINING OF NOVEMBER HAD TO TAKE IT TO SERVICE DUE TO A SUDDEN BATTERY DRAIN. SHE WOULDNT TURN ON FOR NO REASON.THE DEFECTIVE MODULE IS ON BACKORDER WITH NO ESTIMATED ARRIVAL DATE, LEAVING THE VEHICLE UNUSABLE. ITS BEEN THERE FOR 2 MONTHS NOW... THEY PROVIDED A LOANER. EVERYTHING HAS BEEN CONFIRMED BY DEALER. THEY SAID THAT HAD 3 PAGES OF CODES POP UP TO BE FIXED.

- #11709910January 9, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Car info – 2026 Chevrolet Equinox Purchased 9/25/25 Stock# [XXX] VIN: [XXX] Type: LT 4dr All-Wheel Drive On 1/8/26, I took my 2026 Equinox to Northpointe Chevrolet because I had a warning light that came on every time I started my car. The warning light states, ‘Service Driver Assist System’. The alert had been coming on for about a month but I had to cancel my previous two appointments due to bad weather. I explained to the man in service that I would like the automatic braking feature deactivated on my car as well as the alert light corrected. I told him that I was coming up to a red light and I was slowing down when my car automatically slammed on the brakes and gave me whiplash. The man in the service department asked me if I lived on a back road. I told him that I did and he told me that is why I am having this issue. He stated that the dirt and mud caused the wires on the sensor under the front bumper to corrode. He stated that the sensor was supposed to be waterproof/weatherproof but they are not. He showed me where the sensor was on my vehicle. He also stated that the automatic braking was not something that they could turn off because it was a safety feature. He also told me that the broken sensor causes the automatic braking system to operate. I am now afraid every time the red light comes on in my car that the brakes are going to slam on again so I slow way down. My neck has not fully healed from the first time. What would happen if I am driving down the interstate going much faster that I was the last time they automatically stopped the car suddenly. He then explained that the issue was not covered under my bumper-to-bumper warranty because the dirt caused the issue – apparently the waterproof sensor box had no bearing??? I have only made 2 payments so far on this brand-new car. I was charged $87.34 for the diagnostic check and I will be charged another $558.25 when the part comes in to repair my sensor. Twice, while driving in falling snow away from home, the front wipers did not work properly when switched to LO or HI. They behaved as if set to intermittent wiping. The intermittent wiper setting worked properly to adjust the wipe interval. But setting to LO or HI did not cause the wipers to go constantly. As far as I could tell, the arm pivot area was clear enough for them to wipe. The problem went away on its own without restarting the car. It happened again a few days later when parked in a driveway.

The contact's wife owns a 2025 Chevrolet Equinox. While his wife was driving approximately 40 MPH, the message "Service Emergency calling Issue" was displayed. The driver pressed the car phone button on the steering wheel, but the message "Cannot Connect" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the residence. The contact then pressed the OnStar button, but the system failed to connect, with the message "Cannot Connect" displayed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the Telematic Control Module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 10,484.

- #11709731January 8, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING
The Equinox is detecting objects in the rear camera that are not there and automatically applying the automatic emergency breaking. This is causing the car to completely stop and has now caused me to injury my back due to the force of the stop. There is no warning given that the breaks are being applied. I was backing up at 7 miles an hour and the Equinox just stopped dead and there was absolutely nothing near the car. The car was in for an oil change and they said nothing was wrong with it. This latest incident of 4 now happened today and caused me to almost be hit in the parking lot of my child’s school while backing into a parking spot.

- #11709621January 8, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, SERVICE BRAKES
On 3 separate occasions now, my vehicle has slammed on the brakes abruptly when there were no other cars around me in close proximity. The sensors vibrated the driver seat each time right before slamming brakes on, even though no other cars were even close to me. The sensors often go off when they shouldn’t be. The first time this happened, there were no cars ahead of me or beside me on the highway but there was one car behind me about 50 feet I’d say. Thankfully he was paying attention or he would have rear ended me. The 2nd time my husband was getting off an exit ramp so he was only going about 25mph and the car slammed the brakes on. There were no cars ahead of him or behind him. The 3rd time I was pulling out of a plaza entering a stop light and when I saw no cars coming, I started to pull out and it slammed on the brakes. There was a car behind me, but none beside me, and since I was turning left to approach the stop light, there were a few cars in each lane but they were about 20 feet away from me. None of these incidents should have activated the emergency braking. It has to be faulty sensors as they go off often when they shouldn’t. My husband and I both felt like we had bruised ribs and we thank God that nobody hit us, but at some point, we won’t be so lucky! And I am forced to drive this death trap because it’s not showing any codes for the dealership AND I still have to pay on my loan to drive an unsafe car!

GM has redesigned the gear shift of the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox to be placed on the steering wheel. That's fine except engineers put it in the exact spot of where the windshield wiper lever traditionally is AND made it look and act and move like a windshield wiper lever, which instinctively means you as a driver will hit that gear shift when it starts raining or when you want to trigger windshield wiper fluid. Doing so, as we experienced twice (once on a highway exit and another time on a major road) will cause the car to go into neutral since pulling the lever toward you (a movement that used to trigger fluid on the windshield) triggers the car to go into neutral. When you're driving on a major road, this is dangerous, slows the car, forces you to have to figure out how to get it back into drive and there's no obvious workaround for that. You can't come to a complete stop on a highway or a major busy road when in neutral and the car doesn't have easy/instinctive ways to send it back into drive. Numerous drivers have complained of this on Reddit and Facebook and presumably to GM. I sent a complaint to GM today. This is the first time in 40 years of car ownership that I've felt nervous driving a car because I'm worried I will cause a wreck because of poor design. There needs to be a workaround or alert to to this. Very dangerous.

My 2025 Chevrolet Equinox (VIN: [XXX] ) was at Island Chevrolet from Thursday, June 26, 2025, through Monday, July 14, 2025, due to the transmission seizing. The vehicle was not even a year old at the time, as I purchased it in April 2025. Today, [XXX], my Equinox is at Freehold Buick because the OnStar hardware has failed. There is currently no estimated time of arrival for the replacement parts. The OnStar hardware controls critical vehicle functions, including diagnostics, automatic crash response, navigation, and remote commands such as remote start and door locking. A known issue with this OnStar failure is that the vehicle’s battery can drain as the system continuously attempts to reconnect. These types of major issues should not be occurring within the first year of ownership. At this time, there is still no date for when the OnStar hardware will be available. - #11709391January 7, 2026LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION, UNKNOWN OR OTHER
I purchased my 25 Equinox in December 2024 and immediately started having issues. I worked with multiple dealerships when the issues began and then reached out to GM for further help. After more than 6 months of GM giving me the run around, I've been left with an unsafe vehicle that even they don't want back. I had no intention of trading the vehicle within the first 3 years, but I don't feel safe in this vehicle. When I left the dealership the day I bought it, the vehicle drastically depreciated once I cleared their mailbox and to this point, GM hasn't offered any assistance with offsetting my trade difference. I also got 0% financing with GM that isn't currently being offered if I were willing to take the massive loss on my trade in. Here are just a few of the issues that I'm dealing with. The blind spot warning light stays on for no reason. Multiple updates have been done, and modules were changed and the issue remains. At night the warning light shines right in my face. I've tried adjusting the mirror completely outward and it's still an issue. I try avoiding driving at night all together because it makes it very unsafe. If I do have to drive in the dark, I have to use my arm to try blocking the light from my face, but my arm isn't big enough to block all of it. The entire dash has gone black leaving me with no speedometer or gauges. It did come back on, and the dealership ran updates. Most recently, while driving the car will slam on the brakes and put the red triangles on the windshield for no reason. I've had vehicles behind me that almost hit me because it is a drastic drop in speed. Like brake checking. Sometimes the adaptive cruise will start slowing me down like when a car is in front of you only there's nothing there. Dealership doesn't have a solution for these issues. I've also been places and come back out to the car to find that the rear hatch has opened on its own. The dealership ran updates to hopefully prevent this from reoccurring.

The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that there was a distortion in the windshield glass, which caused visibility issues while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and the Service Manager informed the contact that the distortion was due to the sunglasses the contact was wearing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 2,000.

The car automatically brakes when nothing is in front of you and all of sudden it slams on its breaks. This is going to cause someone to rear end you. The steering is all over the road and does. It feels safe to drive. Transmission gets stuck and revs really high until it catches and they say nothing is wrong. Safety sensors go off all the time and nothing is near you. - #11709230January 6, 2026SEAT BELTS
The contact owns a 2026 Chevrolet Equinox. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver's side seat belt became loosened. The contact pulled on the seat belt, which went across the chest, and the seat belt failed to lock and restrain as intended. The contact was able to pull and stretch the seat belt up to the steering wheel. The contact then pulled the lap belt, and the lap belt failed to lock securely as intended. The contact was able to pull and stretch the lap belt upwards. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact called the dealer; however, no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 500.
