What's Being Recalled

VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC. is recalling approximately 68,240 vehicles, including certain 2001-2004 Audi A6 Quattro models equipped with 2.7L, 2.8L, or 3.0L engines, and 2001-2005 Audi Allroad Quattro vehicles with 2.7L or 4.2L engines. The 2001 Audi A6 recall specifically focuses on the aging of the plastic material in the fuel tank rollover valve. This material, combined with bending stress from the aluminum ventilation line to the rollover valve nipple, can lead to cracking of the nipple and a subsequent fuel leak.

Manufacturer's Remedy

Audi dealers will reinforce the nipple on the fuel tank rollover valve to prevent leakage or repair any existing cracking at the nipple. This repair will be performed free of charge to vehicle owners. The recall campaign, identified as VW Recall No. 20L8/JY, began on June 27, 2008.
