Toyota has announced the return of its Camry sedan for the 2027 model year, featuring an exclusively hybrid powertrain across its entire lineup. The updated Camry will be available in five distinct grades: LE, SE, Nightshade, XLE, and XSE. Expected to arrive at dealerships this fall, the 2027 Toyota Camry will carry a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price starting at $29,700, excluding dealer processing and handling fees.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2027 Toyota Camry hybrid is powered by the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5), which pairs a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine with electric motors. This setup delivers a combined 225 horsepower in front-wheel drive (FWD) models. For those opting for all-wheel drive (AWD), the system produces a slightly higher 232 net-combined horsepower. The LE FWD model is estimated by the manufacturer to achieve a combined fuel economy rating of 51 MPG.
An electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (eCVT) manages power delivery, designed to offer smooth acceleration and responsiveness. Drivers can customize their experience using standard selectable NORMAL, ECO, and SPORT driving modes. Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive is available across all 2027 Toyota Camry hybrid grades, utilizing an electric motor on the rear axle to provide torque distribution as needed for enhanced traction and stability, particularly in challenging conditions.
Design and Interior Comfort
The ninth-generation Camry showcases a refreshed exterior design, characterized by Toyota’s "hammerhead" front styling and standard LED lighting. Each of the five grades offers unique visual cues. The LE and XLE grades present a more refined look, with the LE featuring a black horizontal-bar grille and 16-inch alloy wheels, while the XLE upgrades to an 18-inch wheel design and chrome accents.
Sportier SE, Nightshade, and XSE grades incorporate elements like sport-mesh grilles, side sport rockers, and black exterior accents, alongside functional aerodynamic features and exposed dual-tip exhausts. The Nightshade edition further distinguishes itself with Midnight Black Metallic accents and unique 19-inch wheels. Inside, the cabin provides an open-concept layout with grade-specific materials, ranging from woven fabric in the LE to leather-trimmed interiors in the XSE, and a combination of leather and Dinamica® microfiber in the XLE. Heated front seats are standard on XLE and XSE, with ventilation available, and a panoramic roof option enhances the cabin experience.
Advanced Technology and Safety
The 2027 Toyota Camry hybrid integrates modern technology for connectivity and driver assistance. All models come standard with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility, a Qi-compatible wireless smartphone charger, and five USB ports. An 8-inch touchscreen with the Toyota Audio Multimedia system is standard, with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen available on higher grades. Digital gauge clusters range from 7-inch to 12.3-inch depending on the trim, and a 10-inch Head-Up Display is an option for XLE and XSE models.
Safety is a priority, with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 (TSS 3.0) standard across the lineup. This suite includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, and Road Sign Assist. Additional standard features include Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Safe Exit Alert. An optional Premium Plus Package for XLE and XSE adds further driver-assistance technologies like Traffic Jam Assist and a Panoramic View Monitor.
With its transition to an exclusively hybrid powertrain, the 2027 Toyota Camry aims to offer a blend of fuel efficiency, updated design, and comprehensive technology. The range of five grades, along with available all-wheel drive, provides various options for buyers seeking a modern sedan with standard advanced safety features.
