2026 BMW M2 xDrive Debuts as MotoGP Award Car

The 2026 BMW M2 with xDrive all-wheel drive made its global debut at the MotoGP Grand Prix of Hungary, held at the Balaton Park Circuit. This event marked the world premiere of the first BMW M2 model to feature an all-wheel-drive system. The new M2 xDrive will be presented as the prize for the 2026 BMW M Award winner, aiming to enhance the compact high-performance coupe's traction and driving dynamics.

First All-Wheel-Drive M2 Debuts

The 2026 BMW M2 with xDrive introduces all-wheel drive to the M2 lineup, a significant change. This system provides improved grip and stability across various driving conditions, allowing drivers to utilize the car's performance more effectively. Powering the new M2 xDrive is an inline six-cylinder engine with BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology.

Performance figures show the all-wheel-drive variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, 0.3 seconds quicker than the comparable rear-wheel-drive model. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 10.4–10.3 liters per 100 kilometers, with combined CO₂ emissions between 235–233 grams per kilometer, according to WLTP standards.

Visually, the 2026 BMW M2 with xDrive features an exclusive BMW Individual Borusan Turkish Blue paint finish. This color option is being made available for the first time on an M2 derivative, further distinguishing the award-winning model. The integration of xDrive into the M2 family represents an evolution in BMW M's approach to its performance vehicles.

Unveiling at MotoGP Event

The world premiere of the 2026 BMW M2 with xDrive took place during the MotoGP Grand Prix of Hungary at Balaton Park Circuit. Carlos Ezpeleta, Chief Sporting Officer at MotoGP™, and Zsuzsanna Pócs, Head of Marketing for BMW Group Hungary, conducted the unveiling ceremony. This setting provided a high-profile platform for the new model's introduction.

Following the presentation, content creator Becky Evans (@queenb) and MotoGP rider Jorge Martín participated in the “BMW M Racing Balance” challenge on the racetrack. This activity allowed them to experience the handling and all-wheel-drive capabilities of the 2026 BMW M2 with xDrive firsthand. The challenge tests vehicle balance and driver precision.

The BMW M Award Tradition

The BMW M2 with xDrive will serve as the prize car for the 2026 BMW M Award, continuing a MotoGP™ tradition since 2003. This award recognizes the fastest qualifier over the course of the MotoGP season. Points are allocated for qualifying positions in each session, mirroring the system used for races, with the top rider receiving the award by season's end.
