Hyundai has initiated Customer Satisfaction Campaign P33 to address a recent increase in vehicle thefts, particularly those fueled by social media trends. This Hyundai anti-theft campaign aims to bolster vehicle security for owners of certain 2021-2022 Hyundai models that were not originally equipped with an engine immobilizer.

The campaign offers a two-pronged approach: a software upgrade and a new hardware component. These measures are designed to provide enhanced protection against the specific theft methods that have become prevalent.

What's Being Addressed

Initially, Hyundai developed a software upgrade (referred to as Campaign 993) to counter the social media-driven theft methods. This software has been available free of charge to eligible owners since early 2023. It arms the vehicle's security system when the key fob is used to lock the doors.

Building on this, Hyundai has now introduced a new hardware solution: a zinc-reinforced ignition cylinder protector. This protector is designed to be installed at the ignition cylinder location, offering an additional layer of physical security against theft attempts. This hardware upgrade is available at no cost to eligible owners whose vehicles were previously eligible for the software upgrade but lacked a factory-equipped engine immobilizer.

Important Warnings for Owners

Hyundai has issued specific guidance for owners regarding this Hyundai anti-theft campaign:

Manufacturer's Remedy

Owners of eligible 2021-2022 Hyundai vehicles can receive both the software upgrade and the zinc-reinforced ignition cylinder protector installation at no cost. The software upgrade (Campaign 993) has been available since early 2023. The hardware installation, part of Customer Satisfaction Campaign P33, is available until March 31, 2027.

This ensures eligibility for the installation at no cost even beyond the initial period.

Consumer Compensation

Hyundai is also offering compensation for certain theft and attempted-theft related expenses. This applies to consumers whose eligible vehicle was equipped with the software upgrade at the time of a theft or attempted-theft incident that occurred on or after April 29, 2025, or who had a scheduled appointment for the software upgrade at the time of such an incident.
