2024-2025 BMW 5/7 Series DME Faults: SIB 12 11 25

This issue can lead to various fault codes being stored, primarily related to fuel mixture control and irregular combustion. This bulletin, SIB 12 11 25, replaces the previous SI B12 11 25 dated August 2025, incorporating updates to the subject line, affected models, situation description, and correction procedure.

Symptoms

Owners of affected vehicles may notice diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored in the DME related to the engine's fuel mixture and combustion. These codes indicate that the engine's control unit is detecting conditions outside of normal operating parameters.

Fault Codes / DTCs

One or both of the following primary fault codes may be stored in the DME:

• 034AA5: "Mixture control bank 1, lambda regulation, mixture too lean"
• 034AA8: "Mixture control bank 1, lambda adaptation, mixture too rich"

In addition to these, affected vehicles may also store one or more of the following irregular combustion-related fault codes:

Cause

The root cause of these issues, including the 2024 BMW 530i DME faults, has been identified as an error within the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) software.

Repair Procedure Summary

To correct the DME software error, technicians must program the vehicle's DME to the latest software I-level. The specific software version required depends on the vehicle model:

• For G60 vehicles (5 Series Sedan): Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.56.2x or higher, which was released in early November 2025. The target integration level is G060-25-11-520 or higher.
• For G70 vehicles (7 Series Sedan): Program the vehicle using ISTA 4.55.1x or higher, which was released in July 2025. The target integration level is G070-25-07-500 or higher.

This programming procedure will automatically update and encode any vehicle control modules that do not have the latest software I-level. If any control modules fail during reprogramming, additional repair work may be required and claimed under the repair code 1178021400, which is described as "Oxygen control sensor (before catalytic converter) Occasional malfunction."

Important Warnings

Technicians performing the software update must adhere to specific guidelines:

• Battery Charger/Power Supply: Always connect a BMW-approved battery charger/power supply (refer to SI B04 23 10) when performing any programming to ensure stable voltage throughout the process.
• Technical Campaigns: During a workshop visit, if the affected vehicle has other open programming and encoding Technical Campaign repairs, these should be performed and invoiced only once. Technicians should select one of these open campaigns to update the vehicle to the required I-level or higher.
