2022-2025 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Premature Oil Change Light TSB

Owners of certain 2022-2025 Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia vehicles may notice their "oil change light" illuminating on the dashboard much sooner than expected. This issue, addressed by Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 01-002-24, typically occurs shortly after vehicle delivery, often within 4,000 miles (6,437 Km).

This bulletin supersedes an earlier version, TSB 01-001-22, dated September 13, 2022, and includes updated model years and revisions to the repair procedures.

Symptoms

Customers may experience the "oil change light" illuminating on the dash shortly after taking delivery of the vehicle within 6,437 Km (4,000 miles). This premature warning can be concerning, suggesting an issue with the vehicle's maintenance schedule or components.

Cause

The primary cause identified for the premature illumination of the "oil change light" is extended vehicle sitting time. This can occur when a vehicle remains undriven for a significant period, affecting the oil life monitor's calculation.

Repair Procedure Summary

Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 01-002-24 outlines specific procedures depending on whether the vehicle is new (prior to customer delivery) or customer-owned, and based on the vehicle's mileage and time since build.

For Vehicles Prior to Customer Delivery:

• If the vehicle has been built for 365 days or less, and has 150 miles (241 Km) or less, the oil life monitor should be reset. This uses Labor Operation Number (LOP) 09-55-01-94.
• If the vehicle has been built for more than 365 days, or has more than 150 miles (241 Km), an engine oil and filter change is required, followed by an oil life monitor reset. This procedure corresponds to LOP 09-55-01-95.

For Customer-Owned Vehicles:

• If a customer brings their vehicle to the dealer because the "oil change light" is on, and the vehicle has less than 4,000 miles (6,437 Km), the dealer should perform an engine oil and filter change and reset the oil life monitor under warranty. This uses LOP 09-55-01-96.
• If the vehicle has more than 4,001 miles (6,438 Km) when the "oil change light" illuminates, this bulletin does not apply. In this case, a normal oil change procedure should be followed.

Resetting the Oil Change Indicator System:

To manually reset the oil change indicator, follow these steps:

1. Without pressing the brake pedal, push the ENGINE START/STOP button to cycle the ignition to the ON/RUN position. Do not start the engine.
2. Fully depress the accelerator pedal slowly, five times within 10 seconds.
3. Without pressing the brake pedal, push the ENGINE START/STOP button once more to return the ignition to the OFF/LOCK position.

If the indicator message reappears upon starting the vehicle, the oil change indicator system did not reset. Repeat the procedure. If the manual process fails, a scan tool should be used to complete the reset.
