The engine began knocking on startup and on acceleration. The vehicle would sometimes have difficulty accelerating. Upon taking it to the dealership, they were able to duplicate the issue. Upon inspection by the dealership, 2 rod bearings had spun and caused crankshaft damage. The manufacturer approved a full engine replacement under the warranty. There were no warnings lights, messages, or any other symptoms of the problem prior to the first incident.

Engine would tick and burn oil after the updated recall was done. There would be a hesitation occasionally when applying gas when pulling out from stop sign or stoplight. The engine stalled and would not restart. It would crank over but it was a super fast and elongated turn over. We had to call a tow truck and have it towed. The dealership said they found nothing wrong and sent us back out with it. We sent it to another dealership would replaced the auto start stop switch, changed the belts, and did a fuel/valve treatment to clean the fuel system. We got it back and ran it less than 30 days when we picked it up from the dealership after we changed the engine oil, my wife headed out of town on the highway headed to pick up our daughter and the car made it less than 6 miles before it lost power and shut off going 65 mph and almost caused her to get in a wreck. The engine did not turn back over and would not start. Sent it back to the dealership and they found a crank bearing had seized and they replaced the engine. We just got it back but we are not holding our breath since we know so many people here in our small town who have had their engines replaced and we have heard of people getting multiple engines replaced! There fix is not a fix and when these motors go down at highway or freeway speeds it is extremely dangerous. It’s also dangerous for people when they get stranded out in the middle of no where.

Vehicle lost all power and shutdown coming off the highway. This all happened even after the heavier ow-40 oil was added from the initial engine inspection. Been waiting almost 2 months for a total engine replacement

I am writing to report my 2021 GMC Yukon Denali. This vehicle recently suffered a catastrophic failure of its 6.2L V8 engine while traveling on the freeway with my family inside, creating a severe and terrifying safety hazard. This failure occurred after my vehicle was supposedly remedied under GM’s official safety recall for the known L87 engine defect (Recall N252494001). As the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) recently escalated Engineering Analysis reflects, the recall inspection and 0W-40 oil remedy are failing to prevent these engines from destroying themselves. My experience is direct evidence of this continued safety defect. GM has since now fully replaced my engine however only reimbursed me 30% of what it cost to tow to their dealership. Thank you for your consideration.

We were driving back from vacation in a 2022 Yukon Denali with less than 40,000 miles on it when our engine completely seized. We were going highway speeds in a remote area. 4 kids were in our car, one of them only 1 month old. We were stranded for 10 hours. Engine needs to be completely replaced. GM is not providing any assistance.

I am filing this complaint regarding repeated catastrophic engine failures in my 2021 GMC Yukon Denali equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8. I purchased this vehicle as a GM Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. At approximately 7,000 miles, the engine developed a knocking noise and was determined to require complete replacement. I brought the vehicle to the dealership on May 19, 2025, and it remained there until September 17, 2025—nearly four months—while the replacement engine was obtained and installed. Since receiving the replacement engine, I have driven approximately 6,000 miles. On August 4, 2026, I was informed by the dealership that the replacement engine has also failed and requires another complete engine replacement. This means my vehicle has now experienced two major engine failures at extremely low mileage, including failure of the replacement engine. I understand that the 6.2L L87 engine has been subject to a GM recall involving potential engine failure and loss of propulsion. I have now learned that NHTSA has escalated its investigation into continued failures involving these engines, including failures occurring after the recall remedy. My experience appears directly relevant to that investigation. I regularly transport my children in this vehicle and am extremely concerned about the possibility of an engine failure occurring while traveling at highway speeds or with my family in the vehicle. I feel fortunate that the previous failures did not occur under those circumstances. I have contacted GM and requested that they repurchase or replace my vehicle. GM denied my request and has refused to provide me with a reason for the denial. I am asking NHTSA to document my complaint and investigate whether the existing recall remedy is adequately addressing the underlying safety defect, particularly given that my replacement engine failed after only approximately 6,000 miles.I can provide repair orders, recall documentation, mileage records, and correspondence with GMC

While traveling on [XXX] from Houston back to San Antonio, my truck engine just blew up without any warning whatsoever. We purchased the truck with 3 miles on it, and we have only put 5,000 miles on it. New cars that cost early $100K shouldn’t be having engine failures like this. I’m lost for words now! My yukon denali ultimate had only 3,788 miles on it and on 7/27 while merging onto a highway my vehicle made a sound like it was trying to shift into gear but couldn't and then while I'm pressing the accelerator pedal it's slowing down. There were tractor trailer and vehicles speeding up behind me but I couldn't speed up and I was able to pull over on the shoulder luckily and I'm thankful it did not cause an accident. My yukon would not start no matter what I tried and I ended calling a tow truck and had it towed to my local GMC delearship where I was informed that the engine had seized and they would order a new replacement engine. My yukon is still sitting at the dealership waiting for the repair.

- #11758478August 21, 2026ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal clunking sound. The contact pulled over and inspected under the hood. The vehicle was restarted, and the engine revved six times with smoke coming from under the hood. The contact stated that the transmission was previously replaced. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who discovered that Jiffy Lube had used an incorrect engine oil during an oil change. The contact was informed to contact Jiffy Lube and file a claim. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000.

I have a 2024 GMC Yukon Denali equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8 engine. The vehicle has approximately 23,000 miles. The vehicle previously underwent the remedy associated with the L87 engine recall. The engine now uses SAE 0W-40 dexos R oil and has the corresponding 0W-40 oil fill cap. After the recall remedy was performed, the check-engine warning light began intermittently FLASHING while I am driving. The light may flash for a period of time and then turn off again. I have also intermittently experienced the engine running rough or the vehicle shaking while idling. I have noticed the flashing warning light occurring while the engine is under load, including while driving uphill. I have video documenting the check-engine light flashing while the vehicle is being driven. Because the condition is intermittent, the warning light is not necessarily illuminated afterward. I am concerned because this vehicle is equipped with the L87 engine that was subject to GM recall N252494000/NHTSA Recall 25V-274 for potential engine damage/failure, and my vehicle appears to have already received the recall remedy. I understand NHTSA is currently investigating reports of L87 engine failures occurring after completion of that recall remedy. The cause of my vehicle's current symptoms is UNKNOWN and has not yet been diagnosed. The vehicle is available for inspection. I am filing this complaint because an intermittently flashing check-engine warning, rough/shaking operation, and the possibility of an engine malfunction or loss of propulsion present a safety concern, particularly if an engine failure occurs while the vehicle is being driven. I do have an appointment with a different GMC dealership for next week instead of the GMC dealership that sold it to me and preformed the original fix.

- #11757731August 18, 2026ENGINE, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, SERVICE BRAKES
As I was driving, the vehicle's air conditioning suddenly began blowing warm/hot air. Moments later, the check engine light and all electronic service stability lights illuminated on the dashboard. Simultaneously, the vehicle suffered a complete loss of electronic brake assist, resulting in an extremely hard brake pedal and a severe reduction in braking power. The vehicle also displayed a "No Drive Mode Available" message. Third-party diagnostic scanning revealed network power codes U3018, U3505, P00FF, and P0700, indicating a total loss of power to the Body Control Module (BCM). This is the second life-threatening incident with this vehicle I have experienced following a previous highway engine stall due to engine recall. The vehicle was towed to a GM dealership for diagnostic and emergency electrical repairs.

The vehicle was driving down the highway when the oil pressure instantly dropped. 2021 Yukon’s safety system advised pulling over immediately, engine warning light appeared, and vehicle turned off. No prior indications of an issue. It would not restart and was towed to mechanic. Independent service center diagnosed issue as a broken crank shaft. It now needs the engine replaced and does not fall under the recall vin numbers acknowledged for the same issue.

- #11756524August 12, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I have a 2023 GMC Yukon AT4. The OnStar/telematics system stopped working. The blue OnStar button does not function and the vehicle no longer communicates with the myGMC app, resulting in loss of connected and OnStar services. A GMC dealership diagnosed a failed OnStar/telematics module and advised that the module must be replaced at a cost of approximately $1,200. I am concerned because this failure affects access to OnStar communication and emergency-related services. I have found reports from other GM owners describing similar telematics/OnStar module failures, and GM has issued service information addressing K73 telematics-module communication faults. I have also opened a case with GMC Customer Assistance. I am reporting this because I believe the repeated failure of a system used for emergency communication warrants investigation.

On July 28, 2026, while traveling on vacation with my family, our vehicle experienced a catastrophic engine failure. There were warning lights displayed for 30 seconds prior to the engine failure. On July 23, 2026, one day before taking the vehicle to the dealership, the following warning indicators appeared on the dashboard and then disappeared: “Service ESC,” “Service Traction Control,” and a flashing engine light. We took the vehicle to the dealership on July 24, 2026, because we wanted to be proactive and ensure that the vehicle was safe to operate. The dealership inspected the vehicle but reported that no diagnostic trouble codes were identified and no issue was found. We picked the vehicle up from the dealership on the evening of July 27, 2026. On July 28, 2026, while traveling on the highway approximately 2.5 hours from home, the same warning messages appeared on the dashboard again. Because we were traveling at highway speeds and vehicle speed management was becoming an issue, I immediately exited the highway and stopped in a parking area. I placed the vehicle in park, at which point the engine began idling extremely rough. I could feel the vehicle shaking while sitting in the driver's seat. I exited the vehicle to open the hood, but before I was able to do so, I noticed gray smoke coming from the exhaust. We located a GMC dealership approximately two miles away. Because of the vehicle's condition, we drove there slowly on the frontage road at approximately 15 mph and dropped the vehicle off for diagnostic inspection. The GMC dealership subsequently diagnosed the vehicle with catastrophic engine failure and recommended that the engine be replaced. The vehicle remains at the dealership and is available for inspection. We made a reasonable effort to have the vehicle inspected before our trip because we were concerned about the warning indicators and wanted to ensure that the vehicle was safe to travel.

- #11755972August 10, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
On August 6, 2026, I was driving my family up to Whitefish Mountain Resort (a steep mountain road to a ski resort) for dinner when the ESC warning and "Brake System Failure" warning appeared. I immediately attempted to pull safely to the side of the road. When I pressed the brake pedal, the vehicle did not respond normally. I pushed the brake pedal as far down as I could and had essentially no braking ability. Because we were traveling uphill, the vehicle eventually rolled to a stop. When my brother came with his car he had a vehicle scanning tool. He hooked my vehicle up to it and the tool displayed diagnostic codes P25A2 and P3499. This was an extremely serious safety event. Had we been traveling downhill, approaching an intersection, or driving in heavier traffic, the outcome could have been catastrophic.

The contact owns a 2026 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while walking alongside the rear end of the parked vehicle, the hands free function of the lift gate opened up unintentionally, no warning lights were illuminated. The contact was not injured, however expressed concern for safety as the lift gate will open without user consent while walking along the rear end of the vehicle. The local dealer was contacted however the vehicle was not diagnosed as the contact was advised that the vehicle was manufactured with the feature. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60.

GMC should be haulted from selling trucks with the 6.2L engine. My brand new 2026 GMC Yukon Denali engine imploded on the Interstate going 75mph that nearly killed my entire family. No warning, just out of no where died on the highway, with 4K miles on it. This is sadly going to get someone critically injured and when is enough going to be enough? GMC has some explaining to do, when they charge $85K-$100K for trucks that blow up as soon as you buy them.

About 6 times during higher speed operation 80+km/hr during a downshift, the rear wheels lock up causing panic from screeching tires and sudden deceleration. Extremely unsafe. The vehicle is in with the dealership and as suspected, they can't find any issues with codes or transmission pressures. We even have a sound recording of the tires locking up. Typical symptoms of the valve body failure. Hopefully there's parts available soon.
