On [XXX] at approximately 3 pm I left my house and was traveling on [XXX] in Fort Mohave Arizona I was only traveling 7 miles. When I looked at the temperature in the cab was 121 degrees a few moments after the display system went black and never turned back on. I arrived at the store 4 minutes after the display shut off with no warning lights or any type of notification on my phone, I had rolled down the windows to get air in the cab to see if that would help cool down if needed. I was in the store 20 minutes. I returned to the truck turned it on and everything was normal, from there I drove back home nothing happened on my drive back the display was working. At 8 30pm I was traveling on [XXX] Driving towards a casino called Avi. I had the driver's side window halfway down when I smelled a faint plastic burn thinking it was coming from the outside because I had the window halfway down. That is when the cab of the GMC filled up with smoke that came in thru the air vents and flames started to show coming from the defrost vents and under the hood while I was driving. I had to stick my head out of the window to see where I could pull over without starting a huge brush fire. As I pulled over and the truck within seconds fully ignited into flames. Enough time to grab my belongings that I was able to save. My life was at risk by this vehicle igniting while I was driving. I purchased a 2024 GMC 2500 HD truck to pull a 2021 8,000 lb gvw camping trailer that is equipped with electric trailer brakes. My trailer has functioned perfectly related to the trailer brakes with my previous vehicle (2011 Toyota Tundra). With the GMC 2500, at approximately 3000 miles on the vehicle, a “trailer brake disconnected or disabled” and “check trailer wiring” warning began popping up on my information center of the truck. The trailer braking system would not function, though all other functions of the lighting and camera systems to the trailer worked indicating that the wiring and grounding were not an issue with the trailer. The brake system would intermittently return to normal. And then this warning and disconnected condition (i.e. no functioning trailer brakes) would return. This occurred rapidly, and very frequently. GMC has acknowledged a problem with some vehicles with this problem by publishing a TSB that purports to correct this issue (23-NA-149) that recommends replacement of the trailer brake control module (part no. 212327200000019B). I had this repair performed while on a trip in South Dakota away from my home state in Arkansas and the truck and trailer functioned as normal for approximately 3000 miles of towing. However, the issue has returned and my local GMC dealer repair shop (Little Rock, AR) places the blame on the trailer and not the truck. Towing with this 2024 GMC 2500 HD is very unsafe to the occupants and any others on the road due to loss of braking while towing a heavy load or navigating steep grades with a trailer equipped as described. This problem is now all over GMC/Chevy truck forums and is not just me or my combination. This issue is gonna get people killed.

The inner tailgate continually releases the upper tailgate, which then opens when the vehicle is driven. When latched, the tailgate immediately opens again. This is reproducible. I gather the switch is shorted closed, leading to the release of the tailgate. This poses a risk to items in the bed of the truck leaving the vehicle unexpectedly while in motion. The truck has not been to the dealer yet, there has been no inspection of the vehicle by any authority. The vehicle displays a warning “inner tailgate open.”

While commuting on a US Hwy the front upper grill came off the vehicle flying into the windshield and surrounding traffic. Research online shows that this occurrence happens with the same vehicle with different owners. This is a life safety issue that also is not being repaired by the manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2016 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds, he became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring increased effort to maneuver the vehicle, after which the steering wheel jerked to center independently. The power steering assist warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V586000 (Steering), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 61,000.

The transmission failed as I as was turning on to a highway. It seemed like it was rapidly shifting between two gears, but I could not accelerate for several seconds and had to immediately pull over into the ditch to avoid a high speed collision. I took it to the shop the next day. The transmission valve body failed, which appears to be a common issue as I've researched incidents like this online. The part was on backorder. Once it arrived at the dealership, the replacement valve body immediately failed again. Now a 3rd valve body is on backorder with no ETA. I've been without my truck for over a month now with no end in site, and I do not have confidence that a 3rd replacement is going to provide a proper and long lasting fix.

While driving the truck began switching between towing, normal, and off-road driving modes. Lights were flickering and various messages were being displayed on the dash cluster screen. After parking truck and shutting it off all of the lights were flickering and I was unable to start the truck. Charging the batteries did nothing nor was I able to jumpstart the truck with another diesel. After repairs for these issues, at some point the odometer reset and while likely not certain it reset to zero. GM has no way of knowing when it reset and how many miles were driven between leaving the dealership and the reset leaving me with a truck set to the best guess mileage. I am being told this was a software bug and having experienced another software bug when I had the recall to enable seat warmers where the keyfobs would not work in any way I have serious concerns about the quality and safety of the software on these trucks.

I have a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 that I bought new in Oct of 2018 and it now has 15,756 miles on it and was still like new at the time of failure. On May 23rd I was driving the truck when the driver suspension suddenly had an structural failure (mostly the ball joint coming out of the control arm) causing the front right side of the suspension to collapse while driving. This caused the truck to go left of center into on coming traffic resulting in a traffic accident.

The contact owns a 2013 GMC Sierra. The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, she lost consciousness. After regaining consciousness, the contact discovered that the vehicle had crashed into two vehicles and that the driver's side air bag had deployed. The police and paramedics arrived at the scene; however, no one involved in the accident needed immediate medical assistance. A police report was filed. About a week after the accident, the contact stated that they began to develop open sores on both arms as black metal fragments began to leak out of these sores. The contact went to the doctor and was treated for the injuries and was referred to a dermatologist for further assistance. Upon investigation, the contact linked her injuries to the Takata air bag recall. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home and an independent mechanic was able to repair certain parts of the vehicle to make it drivable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a claim was filed. The contact was also informed that an inspector would be sent to inspect the vehicle. The vehicle had been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 312,000.

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed and made an abnormal sound. The contact assumed that the sound was coming from the transmission and the vehicle was taken to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and suggested that the failure might be a pulley or a rod bearing failure. The contact took the vehicle to another dealer who confirmed a rod bearing failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 46,000.

While driving, the infotainment system will suddenly increase volume to 100%. Have had this happen 4 times. Unable to turn sound down the last instance (or turn it off). Was able to find a safe spot to park and turn the vehicle off. This did nothing, as the radio would not turn off regardless of what I had done. After roughly 5 minutes of the vehicle being shut off, the radio finally turned off. No matter how many times the truck was turned on and off, the issue persisted. The only "fix" that worked was to let the vehicle for some time, which seemed to reset the system. THIS IS A MAJOR HAZARD AS HAVING SUDDEN SHOCK FROM VOLUME ISSUES IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. The sudden increase in volume nearly caused an accident on the road (each time). Vehicle is being brought to a dealer today to figure out the issue, but I see that it has been reported in several forums online with no fixes appearing to be available. Prior to the issue, there was no other issues or prior symptoms to alert of an issue.

Hello, I purchased a 2022 GMC Sierra AT4 2500 in August of 2022. I then purchased a 2022 Alliance Avenue 30RLS in September of 2022. The first time we took the Alliance Avenue out on a camping trip (October 2022), we had brake controller issues. The brake controller would suddenly disconnect and I would have an error on the screen saying that the controller was no longer connected, and the light would go off on the brake controller on the dashboard. At this point, we had no trailer brakes. This issue happened several times, and the controller would go offline and come back, sometimes within seconds, sometimes in minutes (up to 10+). Strangely, the lights and signals continued to work. After the trip, I brought the trailer back to our RV dealership where they inspected the brakes and said we were okay on that end. I then took the truck to a GMC Dealership who informed me that everything was good on their end... Next trip, same issue. Took the trailer to the RV dealership and they took the system down to the brake pads and said they didn't see anything, but they rerouted some brake wiring just in case. On the way home from the RV dealership, the brake controller continued to fail. Took the truck back to GMC, they found nothing. Had a 3rd party RV repair tech install a solar shutoff switch and replace the trailer side brake plug in pigtail to rule that out. The issue persisted. Took the truck to a Chevy Dealership, the found no issues. Took the trailer camping several times, same issue persisted, and we were in dangerous situations over the Colorado Mountains, having this fail multiple times over Eisenhower Pass and other mountain passes. Took the trailer back to the RV Dealership, they found nothing - took it to the Chevy Dealership, they replaced the truck bed plug-in. The issue persisted. The Chevy Dealership informed me there was a module replacement for the GMC 2500 2023-2024 trucks, but they could not do that for me.

I am writing to complain about that General Motors has issued a retrofit program for 2022 model vehicles that did not come with safety features due to the microchip shortage. I purchased my vehicle new in 2021 and the vehicle did not have the option of having safety features at the time of purchase. I find not having the safety features in a large vehicle to be a safety concern for those that use the vehicle or around the vehicle. General Motors should add the 2021 model vehicles that also did not have the ability to have those features on them added as a part of their retrofit program.
