SummaryAdvanced Onboard Battery Diagnostics. Starting with the introduction of the F10 (5 Series), an advanced intelligent battery sensor has been used. This now makes it possible for the vehicle to monitor the condition of the battery in order to determine if the battery needs to be recharged or replaced, along with the remaining capacity of the battery. The analysis and testing of the battery's SoC (Stateof Charge) and SoH (State of Health) is now performed using ISTA (Integrated Service Technical Application) diagnosis. A separate test using a battery tester is no longer needed.

Summary"Front Crash-Active Headrest Has Limited Height Adjustment. INFORMATION This bulletin will help you understand the features of the crash-active headrest and explain the benefits to your customers and center staff. 1. Learn the safety features and operation of the front seat and crash-active headrest. Photos A and B: In the event of an accident, the rear passenger must be able to move the front seatback forward, regardless of the seat position. This allows the rear passenger an easy exit from the rear seat of the vehicle, even if the electrical power source is no longer available. 2. When the seatback is manually moved, the headrest must have free movement throughout the full range of the seatback. Photos C and D: The headrest and seatback must be able to move fore and aft without contacting the roof or sun visor, regardless of seat position. The headrest height will automatically adjust to maintain this clearance, regardless of seat position. 3. In case of an accident, the crash-active headrest will be automatically activated forward to reduce the distance between the occupant's head and the headrest. This results in increased safety for the occupant. Photo E shows the headrest in the normal position. Photo F shows the headrest in the ""active"" position and will not contact the roof. Note: The headrest's chrome bar supports can be seen. "

SummaryErroneous Brake Pad Replacement Message. The Dynamic Stability Control module (DSC) calculates the brake pad replacement intervals based on information from the front and rear axle brake pad wear sensors. When replacement of the front and or rear brake pads is necessary, the DSC control module triggers an indicator lamp located in the vehicle's instrument cluster. However, the brake pad indicator lamp may be illuminated although a replacement of the brake pads is not necessary. Additionally, one or both of the following fault codes may be stored in the DSC control module: * 5DE0 Brake-pad wear: plausibility, front axle * 5DE1 Brake-pad wear: plausibility, rear axle CAUSE DSC software error

SummaryMErroneous "Service due" Message Though Brake Lining Thickness Sufficient. The CBS data calculated for the remaining distance of the front and/or rear brake pads does not agree with the actual brake pad thickness. The yellow brake lining service due indicator illuminates even though the pad thickness is greater than the minimum wear limit (approximately 3.7 mm); the brake wear sensor has not yet been activated (from a thickness of approx. 4.2 mm). In some cases, the red warning message may already be active. The CBS front/rear brake display is based on a mathematical calculation. Various influences are incorporated into this calculation (for example, vehicle speed, brake pressure, and rotor temperature). Due to changing driving characteristics and/or unfavorable environmental conditions, the calculated remaining distance may differ from actual pad thickness.
