2023 GMC Sierra Duramax Diesel with 10 speed Allison Transmission with 28,000 miles can't be driven. Currently at the dealership due to a transmission valve body problem, codes P0700 & P0747. While driving I felt a hard shift and the truck jerk. The engine light came on and my truck went into low power mode. Let it sit over night and truck would shift fine. This happened 3 times over a 1 month period. After getting to the Chevy dealer they told me the issue is with he valve body and said they have been having multiple trucks come in with the same problem. They have a truck in there since May (4 months!) They told me there is no ETA for the part. I've read this is a common issue happening on 2023 & 2024 trucks like mine. I've read that the problems have been going on for over 1 year. This is ridiculous for a $90,000.00 truck. GM should be putting new transmissions in them or buying the trucks back. I'm considering contacting an attorney to inquire about the lemon law or what other avenues I can take regarding getting the truck fixed, and fixed properly.

There are 2 issues with this vehicle: #1) The rear window defrost causes an electrical issue that melted the plastic on our rear sliding window. Dealer claims we put something hot against the window but we did not. This appeared after we used the rear defrost. Several other owners have complained about this as well. #2) The vehicle is advertised as having adaptive cruise but it does not have this feature.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the tailgate opened without driver input. The sensor failed to notify the contact that the tailgate was opened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the tailgate sensor was replaced. The failure persisted. The vehicle was returned to the dealer where it was confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. Vin tool shows no information. The failure mileage was 900.

Engine goes to limp mode multiple times 3 of which happened getting onto the highway and almost creating an accident due to the reduced acceleration mode. CODe u0656 00 popped up each time. Dealer has yet to rectify due to lack of appointments… making me keep the vehicle saying it’s drivable but each time randomly goes into the reduced acceleration mode every restart. Approx 17 months after purchase, tailgate release button (the lower button on the tailgate that is used to open (fully) the tailgate) stopped releasing the tailgate, however tailgate releases randomly when opening one of the truck doors. Based on the "fix" that has been subscribed for existing Chevy & GMC trucks with recalls for this same problem (although my truck isn't covered by current recalls) , my mechanic has ordered a new tailgate release switch (or whatever it is called) which they are installing tomorrow.

In late February/early March, my GMC Sierra with around 9000 miles had the following to occur on a cold start: check engine light came on as well as the service esc light & traction control light, truck shuddered and shimmied. Took for service on March 4, 2024 with 9774 miles on odometer, where service tech said they couldn't duplicate concern (see attachments: March Service Invoice Pg 1 & 2). Took truck home & same issues kept occurring especially on cold mornings & days. Took the truck back for service on April 1, 2024 with 10895 miles on odometer. Told them to keep it till its fixed & to start it on cold mornings because thats when problem occurs. They had truck till April 12, 2024 and were able to duplicate the concern. Dealer changed the fuel injector (that was not the problem). Service tech finally found the cylinder 8 has a misfire until vehicle gets to operating temperature. They replaced all 8 lifters in bank 2 (right side) & gave me an oil change. This seems to have fixed the problem, but I won't really know until winter 2025. My problem with this lifter issue is that this engine will probably only last for 3 maybe 4 years tops because of all the metal shavings that are roaming around in the engine. This has been a problem with GM engines for some time & GM has yet to fix it or at least take responsibility for their poor engineering. I paid over $70,000 (of which GM made around $17,000) for this truck only to have the engine probably make it for a few years. My last truck I kept for 10 years. I don't see this happening with this truck.

Transmission had a hard shift which jolted the truck switching gears to a lower one unexpectedly. It caused my body to jerk back. It happened 3 times. 2 were mild but the 3rd time was extreme. Always while accelerating. Average speed was about 50 mph when this occurred. Dealer has confirmed a failure of the transmission valve body. If the transmission were to be put in park while traveling, it could cause major accident and injuries. After the 3rd time the engine warning light came on and the truck went into limp mode.

The valve body inside the transmission has failed and GM has known it to fail but they have done nothing about it. My vehicle has been in the shop for 2 months because of it and “parts are on back order” it’s terrible i’ve bought this vehicle in august and it’s constantly been inside the shop for various issues. My transmission lost 7th gear and it came to an immediate stop in the road because of it. tires screeching and all. truly embarrassing that you can spend 83,000$ on a truck and it be such a peice of junk.

We’ve had issues with the electrical system/brake lights when we hook any trailer (horse/boat/utility) to the truck. One issue is that the system shows unconnected and the trailer lights blink or do not work. We’ve brought this in to the dealer 3 times and they have yet to resolve the issue. The other issue of melted plastic on our rear sliding mirror. It just appeared one day, possible after using the rear defog button. We took it to the dealer and they also do not know what is the issue. We found several other blogs where owners have had the same issue. This is a newer vehicle, and we live in Southern California where the temperature is mild. It just appeared one day. We are concerned This is a safety issue with the electrical system melting the plastic and possibly causing a fire. Here is a link to a blog: [XXX] Lastly, this vehicle was advertised as having adaptive cruise and it does not have the capability (chip) to do so. The transmission failed as I as was turning on to a highway. It seemed like it was rapidly shifting between two gears, but I could not accelerate for several seconds and had to immediately pull over into the ditch to avoid a high speed collision. I took it to the shop the next day. The transmission valve body failed, which appears to be a common issue as I've researched incidents like this online. The part was on backorder. Once it arrived at the dealership, the replacement valve body immediately failed again. Now a 3rd valve body is on backorder with no ETA. I've been without my truck for over a month now with no end in site, and I do not have confidence that a 3rd replacement is going to provide a proper and long lasting fix.

On May 5, 2024, while driving my 2023 GMC Sierra truck on HWY 40 near Holbrook, AZ, the tailgate lowered un-commanded twice while driving. I called GMC and they told me that my vin is not included in the recall. There is a recall for this exact problem however GMC said it is only for GMCC truck built at a specific plant. This happened twice and did significant damage to my tailgate.

I bought truck brand new one week later the tailgate opened while driving and hit the trailer and destroyed the tailgate. So I bought a brand New tailgate and repaired truck. Few months ago it happened again all my tools flew out into the highway almost caused a major accident and destroyed my saw and tools got thrown all over the road. Last week it opened again and destroyed the new tailgate I bought. The dealer is aware, gmc is aware and no parts to fix it or does anyone want to help me just let me drive a truck that is so unsafe. It's all over the internet this issue people are saying there tailgate opens while driving and gmc made a statement saying they are aware but not helping me. Sold me a truck for alot of money knowing it's a major dangerous defect that can cause major damage and serious injury on the road.

The bed tailgate will come down on its own. There is no warning or message to indicate the tailgate is down. This has happened at least 6 times in the past 6 months. The dealer is aware and some models have had a recall but I have not gotten one yet. The danger is something coming out of the bed while driving down the road, which happened to me and lost a crate with trailer ball hitch and straps. I don't know if it caused an issue because i don't know when or where it fell out. Googling this shows it is happening a lot. Very dangerous and some sort of correction or warning.

Purchased vehicle new June 23 2023 and Super Cruise never worked and if engaged acted erratically . Vehicle spent over 40 days in several GM dealerships for the issue and one dealer even charged me for installing a warranty part.. GM filled a case 9-10220813020 but were not helpful in dealing with dealers and to add insult to injury would not even reimburse me for warranty work or in any way compensate me for my time and efforts to fix the issue. Frustrated with GMs indifference I traded the vehicle in March 2024.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 3500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, a diagnostic test was not performed but the dealer provided a temporary repair by disconnecting the tailgate switch. The contact was advised by the dealer to access the tailgate to use the key fob or the button located within the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
