The windshield washer system in these newer models operates differently from previous Nissan vehicles. It is designed for more efficient fluid use, to prevent the spray from blocking the driver's vision, and to spray fluid directly onto the windshield to avoid spraying vehicles behind or nearby pedestrians.

Symptoms

Owners of 2021-2022 Nissan Rogue vehicles may experience the following symptoms related to the windshield washer system:

• The front windshield washer is not working.
• The front windshield washer exhibits poor performance.

Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions

To confirm the correct operation of the Nissan Rogue windshield washer pump, technicians will perform a specific test to measure the fluid output. This involves:

1. Locating the windshield washer pump tubes, which are connected by a barbed connector under the hood on the passenger side near the strut mount.
2. Separating the "pump side" tube from the barbed connection.
3. Starting the vehicle.
4. Taking the pump side of the tube and aiming it into an empty container to prime the system, discarding this initial fluid.
5. Immediately after priming, placing the tube into a graduated cylinder.
6. Activating the windshield washers for five complete windshield wiper strokes while collecting the fluid.

Measurements will not accurately reflect pump performance if fluid collection is not done immediately after priming the pump.

Repair Procedure Summary

After collecting the fluid, the technician will check the amount. If the Nissan Rogue windshield washer pump is operating correctly, the fluid collected from five wiper strokes should be more than 145 milliliters. If the collected fluid is less than 145 milliliters, it indicates a problem, and further diagnostic information will be sought from the Electronic Service Manual (ESM).

Required Tools or Parts

For the diagnostic procedure, technicians will use standard workshop tools including:

• An empty container for priming.
• A graduated cylinder for measuring fluid output.

If the pump is found to be faulty, the Primary Failed Part (PFP) is identified as the Front Washer Pump Assy (part number 28920-*****).
