2023 Kia Sportage Fuel Filler Vent Collar Emissions Campaign

Kia America, Inc. has initiated a Voluntary Emissions Service Campaign for specific 2023 Kia Sportage vehicles. This campaign addresses a potential issue with the fuel filler neck vent collar, which, if partially blocked, could lead to the release of air pollutants exceeding federal and California emissions standards. These standards are in place to safeguard public health and welfare.

This campaign ensures that affected 2023 Kia Sportage vehicles meet all necessary environmental standards.

What's Being Addressed

The campaign focuses on the fuel filler neck vent collar in 2023 Kia Sportage models manufactured between November 17, 2022, and January 18, 2023. Dealers will inspect this component. If the fuel filler neck vent collar is found to be partially blocked, it will be replaced at no cost to the customer.

Diagnosis and Repair

Authorized Kia dealerships will inspect the fuel filler neck vent collar on affected vehicles. If the inspection reveals that the vent collar port is partially blocked, the dealer will replace the entire fuel filler vent neck collar. This repair will be performed free of charge to the owner.

Important Information for Owners

Owners of affected 2023 Kia Sportage vehicles will receive an official notification letter. This letter, along with a Q&A Guide for campaign questions, will be mailed on July 7, 2023. The repair, if needed, will be completed at no cost to the vehicle owner.

Special State Requirements

For owners in California, the state's "Registration Renew/Recall Tie-In Program" requires the completion of emissions recalls before vehicle registration renewal. California dealers must provide a filled-out "Emissions Recall Proof of Correction Card" to each owner upon completion of the campaign. A "Campaign Completion Label" must also be affixed under the hood of the vehicle. Instructions for these cards and labels are detailed in the Technical Service Bulletin (TSB).

Similarly, for dealers and owners in Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington, a completely filled-out "Proof of Correction Card" must be provided to owners if requested for vehicle registration renewal. A "Campaign Completion Label" is also required under the hood of the vehicle in these states.

Dealer Instructions

Kia has instructed dealers to begin performing these repairs on any affected 2023 Kia Sportage vehicles currently in their inventory before selling them to retail customers. A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) providing detailed vehicle repair procedures, affected VIN production ranges, and warranty claim information will be available on the Kia Global Information System (KGIS) at www.kiatechinfo.com during the week of July 5, 2023. Samples of the "Vehicle Emissions Recall Proof of Correction (POC) Card" and "Campaign Completion Label" are provided to dealers, with the note that these specific cards and labels are for California and S177 State dealers only and can be ordered through the PDC.
