2024 Jeep Wrangler PCM Update for MIL and DTCs

Owners of 2024 Jeep Wrangler vehicles equipped with the 2.0L I4 DOHC DI Turbo Engine W/ESS (Sales Code EC1) may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination or a "no crank/no start condition." This is addressed by Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 18-011-25 REV. A, issued on July 25, 2025. This TSB supersedes the previous TSB 18-011-25 dated March 8, 2025, and provides an updated repair strategy for these conditions. The primary cause for these issues is identified as the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software.

Symptoms

Important Warnings

• Battery Charger Requirement: During the PCM reprogramming process, it is critical to install a battery charger to maintain voltage between 13.2 and 13.5 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to drop below 13.2 volts or climb above 13.5 volts.
• Interrupted Flash Process: If the flash process is interrupted or aborted, it must be restarted immediately.
• SA Market Notification: For the SA market only, after applying this TSB, it is not necessary to send DID-I or DID-A.

Diagnosis

Diagnosis involves using a wiTECH scan tool to check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Technicians will also consult DealerCONNECT/Service Library for appropriate diagnostic procedures. If other DTCs or symptoms are present beyond those listed in this bulletin, they must be addressed first.

Repair Procedure Summary

The 2024 Jeep Wrangler PCM update and related repairs involve a multi-step process:

1. DTC Scan: Scan the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for DTCs. Specific DTCs (P0017/P000A, P219A, P0420) direct the technician to different starting points in the repair procedure.
2. Engine Oil Inspection: Check if the engine oil is contaminated with metallic debris. If contamination is found, the engine oil and filter must be replaced.
3. OCV Inspection: Remove and inspect both Oil Control Valves (OCVs) for torn screens, as illustrated in Fig. 1 ("OCV Filter OK") and Fig. 2 ("OCV Filter Torn"). If screens are torn, the OCVs, engine oil, and filter are replaced.
4. PCM Software Level Check: Verify if the PCM has the latest software level. If not, the PCM will be reprogrammed.
5. Oxygen Sensor & Catalytic Converter Inspection: If O2 sensor-related DTCs (P0133, P219A, P0420) are present, the upstream oxygen sensor is removed, and a borescope is used to inspect the catalytic converter for internal melting, cracking, or a "brain pattern" (Fig. 3 "Melted Catalyst" and Fig. 4 "Brain Pattern"). If damage is found, the catalytic converter is replaced.
6. PCM Reprogramming: Reprogram the PCM with the latest available software. A battery charger must be connected during this process to maintain stable voltage.
7. DTC Clearance & Test Drive: Clear all DTCs from all modules. The vehicle is then test-driven to ensure that the DTCs do not reset.
