2018-2024 Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator Corrosion Warranty Claims

FCA has issued Warranty Bulletin ID-23-03 (Rev. E) to streamline the process for handling corrosion warranty claims on certain Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator models. This bulletin, effective for repairs received on or after August 1, 2024, introduces significant changes aimed at simplifying the claims procedure for dealers and ultimately benefiting owners by expediting repairs for Jeep Wrangler corrosion warranty issues.

This update adds 2024 model year vehicles to the scope and revises the Collision Service Bulletin number. The core change is the elimination of Vehicle Digital Imaging (VDI) pre-approval, measurement requirements, and the Repair vs Replace worksheet for paint repairs and panel replacements related to corrosion.

Important Information for Owners and Technicians

This bulletin outlines several critical points for both service personnel and vehicle owners regarding Jeep Wrangler corrosion warranty claims:

• Coverage Verification: Dealers must "Always verify coverage using DealerCONNECT or wiADVISOR VIP" before proceeding with any warranty work.
• Hinge Replacement: If hinges are replaced due to corrosion, they "MUST be replaced as a set (upper and lower per component)" to prevent a visual mismatch. However, technicians should "Do not replace the hinges on the other doors if no signs of corrosion is found." Technical Service Bulletin 23-020-23 provides further information on this.
• Documentation: For claim support, a clear photo of the corrosion is required and "MUST include the VIN and affected body panel." The VIN can be included via a sticky note, grease pen, or a copy of the Repair Order (RO) in the photo.
• Sublet Invoices: If a sublet invoice is submitted with the claim, it "Must also be retained in the dealer's file."

Identifying Corrosion Issues

The bulletin highlights two primary conditions that indicate corrosion requiring attention:

• Pitting After Sanding: Corrosion described as pitting found after sanding the affected area (as illustrated in Fig. 1 of the bulletin). If pitting is found, specific Labor Operations (LOPs) like 23-75-XX-XX and 23-85 replacement LOPs are to be used.
• Seam Corrosion: Corrosion found on the seam of a panel (as illustrated in Fig. 2 of the bulletin). If seam corrosion is present, the door shell will be replaced, and no additional sanding in the hinge or seam area is supported.

Streamlined Repair Procedure

New Labor Operations (LOPs) have been developed to simplify the claim and estimating process for corrosion repairs. These LOPs bundle the labor and material allowance for painting, de-trimming, repair, and blending for individual panel repairs or replacements. This means that measurements and the Repair vs Replace worksheet are no longer required.

Claim Submission Guidelines

Dealers will no longer submit panel repairs as a sublet claim when a third-party body shop performs the work. Instead, all parts and labor must be entered as a traditional repair to reflect the maximum supported reimbursement. All claims for Jeep Wrangler corrosion warranty repairs should be submitted as a normal Warranty (W) claim, including:

• Technician ID: "none"
• Part(s) and materials: (MATL)
• Labor: (new Labor Operations only)
• RA attachments: Sublet invoice (must be submitted with the claim and retained in the dealer's file), and photos with the VIN and affected area.
