2023-2024 Jeep Compass Tail Lamp Condensation TSB

Jeep has issued Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 08-182-24, also released as Rapid Service Update (RSU) 24-116, to address concerns regarding condensation in the tail lamps of 2023-2024 Jeep Compass and Jeep Meridian vehicles. This bulletin, dated August 13, 2024 (TSB) and August 12, 2024 (RSU), provides diagnostic and repair procedures for a common issue: Jeep Compass tail lamp condensation.

This service action applies to vehicles built on or after April 1, 2023 (MDH 0401XX) and on or before July 1, 2024 (MDH 0701XX). Owners of affected vehicles experiencing a foggy appearance in their tail lamps should be aware of this bulletin.

Symptoms of Tail Lamp Condensation

Owners may observe one or more of the following conditions:

• "Foggy appearance in body side tail lamp (M6 & H6)"
• "Foggy appearance in exterior lamp bar (H6)"

These symptoms indicate moisture buildup inside the lamp assemblies, which can affect light output and appearance.

Identified Causes

Jeep has identified two primary causes for the Jeep Compass tail lamp condensation:

• Poor Sealing: For both M6 (Compass) and H6 (Meridian) models, poor sealing in the exterior lamp bar is a contributing factor.
• Windshield Washer Fluid: Specifically for H6 (Meridian) models, the usage of highly concentrated windshield washer fluid can also lead to this issue.

Diagnosis and Repair Procedure Summary

When a customer reports symptoms of tail lamp condensation, technicians will follow a specific diagnostic and repair process outlined in TSB 08-182-24.

1. Initial Inspection: The vehicle and the affected tail lamp or exterior lamp bar will be washed and wiped clean. Technicians will then check for any visible water entry or condensation inside the lamp assemblies (referencing Figure 1 in the TSB).
2. External Damage Check: An inspection for external damage, such as cracks or openings, will be performed on the body side tail lamp or exterior lamp bar (referencing Figure 2). If external damage is found, the repair is generally not covered under warranty.
3. Environmental Test: If no external damage is present, the vehicle will be taken outside to an open environment. All lamps will be turned on, and the vehicle will be left to idle for 30 minutes. After this period, the condensation level will be re-inspected.
4. Replacement or Adjustment:
   • If condensation persists after the 30-minute test, the body side tail lamp (for M6 and H6 models) or the exterior lamp bar (for H6 models) will be replaced. Detailed service procedures for replacement are available in the DealerCONNECT Service Library.
   • Technicians will also check for any fouling or gaps between the body side and inner side tail lamp (M6) or between the body side tail lamp and the exterior lamp bar (H6) (referencing Figures 3 and 4). If gaps are found, an alignment and adjustment procedure will be performed.

If no condensation is present initially, or if it clears after the 30-minute test, and no fouling or gaps are found, the inspection labor operation (08-50-85-9K) will be used to close the Rapid Service Update (RSU).
