This upgrade is applicable to certain vehicles without a push-button ignition or an immobilizer lamp in the instrument cluster.

For vehicles that cannot receive the Campaign 993 software upgrade, Hyundai offers Campaign P32, which provides customers with free steering wheel locks. Additionally, Hyundai has made available a purchasable accessory security kit (PN 00F67-AU200) for certain 2016-2022 model year vehicles, offering an additional layer of protection against theft.

• Aftermarket Systems: "Vehicles equipped with an aftermarket or add-on alarm, or remote start may not operate normally if the BCM is upgraded with this software." • Activating Anti-Theft Software: "Once the upgrade procedure has been completed, be sure to lock your vehicle with the key fob to activate the enhanced anti-theft system. It is also recommended that you unlock your vehicle with the key fob to ensure it will start." Hyundai warns that "Using the mechanical door lock may not activate the anti-theft system and your vehicle may not start."
• Declining Services: If you choose to decline the anti-theft software upgrade and/or decals, or the anti-theft steering wheel lock, the dealership will document your decision on the Repair Order. You will be asked to sign to acknowledge you are declining the procedure.
• Warranty for Accessory Kit: The Hyundai Approved Accessory Kit (PN 00F67-AU200) is an optional purchase, and its cost, including installation, is not covered under warranty or as part of a service campaign or recall, as the thefts are not related to a malfunction or defect. "Damage caused by improper installation or parts and accessories not supplied by Hyundai may not be covered under your vehicle warranties."
• Accessory Kit Effectiveness: "The alarm is not a guarantee against theft and Hyundai Motor America is not stating that the alarm will prevent theft under any circumstance or that we in any way guarantee that we will replace the vehicle if stolen with the alarm kit." Additionally, "This system does NOT have a manual deactivation switch. If the transmitter batteries fail, it will not be possible to disarm/arm the system. Always ensure one, or both, transmitter fobs have fresh, strong batteries."
• Accessory Kit Vehicle Compatibility: The accessory kit "is not available for alternative fuel, electric or hybrids. Nor is the kit available for manual transmission vehicles."

Software Upgrade Details (Campaign 993)

Service Campaign 993 involves upgrading the Integrated Body Control Unit/Body Control Module (IBU/BCM) software. This upgrade is designed to enhance the existing Hyundai burglar alarm system operation and ignition start logic. The procedure also includes the installation of anti-theft decals on the front driver's-side and front passenger-side windows. This is detailed in TSB 23-01-014H-6.

Eligibility: This campaign applies to certain 2011-2022 Hyundai vehicles that are not equipped with a push-button ignition and do not have an immobilizer lamp in the instrument cluster. Vehicles produced after November 20, 2021, typically have immobilizers as standard, and therefore Campaign 993 software does not apply to them.

Repair Procedure Summary: The dealership will inspect the vehicle to confirm eligibility. If eligible, a Certified-level or above Service Technician will perform the software upgrade. This involves connecting to the vehicle's diagnostic system to flash the new BCM software. Following the software update, anti-theft decals will be applied to the front windows using a template. The technician must take specific photos, referred to as "STUI photos," of the instrument cluster (if applicable) and the installed decals with the last 6 digits of the VIN and date of repair visible for warranty claim submission. Warranty Information: Hyundai pays 0.3 hours for this software upgrade, with Elantra (CN7/CN7a) models receiving 0.4 hours. This time includes decal installation, STUI photo capture, and upload.

Parts Information: All dealers received an initial shipment of 500 Anti-Theft Window Decals to service 250 vehicles (2 decals per vehicle) at the start of the Campaign 993 software upgrade. These decals are specifically for vehicles receiving the software upgrade. Additional decals can be ordered through the Parts Bulletin SC993 Anti-Theft Decal Order Processing in WebDCS.

Customer Talk Track for Software Upgrade: Dealers are instructed to inform customers: "Your vehicle is eligible for the free software upgrade to improve the existing factory alarm system and ignition start logic. We will also apply anti-theft decals to the front driver's-side and front passenger-side windows of your vehicle. This procedure will be performed at no charge to you. Once the upgrade procedure has been completed, be sure to lock and unlock your vehicle using the key fob buttons to activate and deactivate the anti-theft system. Using the mechanical door lock may not activate the anti-theft system and your vehicle may not start. If you have aftermarket window tint, the decals may cause damage to the tint if you attempt to remove them later. Also, if your vehicle has an aftermarket security or remote start system installed, it's operation could be potentially affected by this software upgrade."

Steering Wheel Lock Program (Campaign P32)

For certain 2011-2017 Hyundai vehicles that cannot accommodate the Campaign 993 anti-theft software upgrade, Hyundai offers a free steering wheel lock under Campaign P32. This program aims to provide a physical deterrent against theft for vehicles that cannot benefit from the software enhancement. The procedure for this is described in TSB 23-01-055H-1.

Eligibility: This campaign is for vehicles without engine immobilizers that are not eligible for the Campaign 993 software upgrade. Specific models include certain 2011-2017MY Accent (MC/RB), 2013-2014MY Elantra Coupe (JK), 2011-2012MY Elantra Touring (FD), 2011-2012MY Santa Fe (CM), 2011-2012MY Veracruz (EN), and 2011-2012MY Genesis Coupe (BK). Owners of these vehicles can obtain a steering wheel lock (Part Number 6009L) through their Hyundai dealer's service drive at no cost.

Reimbursement: Hyundai will reimburse customers who own or lease 2011-2022 model year vehicles without immobilizers up to $300 for the purchase of a different anti-theft device, such as an alarm kit, or for a steering wheel lock. Parts Information: All dealers received an initial shipment of 8 steering wheel locks (PN 6009L) for distribution to affected customers (1 per eligible vehicle). Because your vehicle is not eligible, Hyundai would like to provide to you this anti-theft steering wheel lock at no cost to you. Using this anti-theft steering wheel lock may help deter the theft of your vehicle."

Hyundai Approved Accessory Kit (PN 00F67-AU200)

As an additional security measure, Hyundai offers an approved accessory security kit (PN 00F67-AU200) for purchase. This kit is designed to address the methods of entry used by thieves and provides enhanced protection.

Components: The kit includes a tilt sensor, an auditory 'glass break' sensor, an impact sensor, a siren, and a starter interrupt. It comes with two new key fob transmitters for arming and disarming the system.

Availability and Cost: The kit is available for purchase and installation at Hyundai dealerships and Compustar authorized installers. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the kit is $170, not including installation costs. Installation typically takes approximately 2.2 hours, though actual time may vary. Hyundai encourages dealers to price the kit at the suggested MSRP without additional markup.

Applicable Vehicles: This kit is available for 2016-2022 model year Hyundai vehicles, including the Accent, Elantra, Elantra GT, Sonata, Veloster, Venue, Kona, Tucson, Santa Fe, and Palisade. It is specifically for internal-combustion engine (ICE) vehicles with automatic transmissions and key ignition steering columns (no push-button start).

Installation Notes: Upon installation, the system can only be armed/disarmed with the new transmitter fobs. Original vehicle fobs may unlock doors but not arm/disarm the system, potentially causing false activations. The system lacks a manual deactivation switch, so ensuring fresh, strong batteries in the transmitter fobs is crucial.
