2021-2023 Hyundai DCT Electric Oil Pump DTCs

Hyundai has issued Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 22-AT-009H to address diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) related to the 8-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) electric oil pump (EOP) in several models. Owners may experience a "Check Engine" light illuminating on the dashboard. This TSB provides detailed diagnostic and repair procedures for technicians to resolve these issues, ensuring proper transmission function.

Symptoms

The primary symptom indicating an issue with the electric oil pump is the illumination of the "Check Engine" light on the instrument cluster. This light signals that the vehicle's onboard diagnostic system has detected a fault within the powertrain, specifically related to the DCT's oil pump system.

Fault Codes / DTCs

Technicians will use a diagnostic scan tool to identify specific DTCs. These codes indicate whether the issue lies with the High Flow EOP or the High Pressure EOP. If you are experiencing a "Check Engine" light on your Hyundai Elantra EOP DTC related to these components, the following codes may be present:

Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions

Diagnosis begins with connecting a Global Diagnostic System (GDS) tool to the vehicle. Technicians will perform a DTC Analysis and check the A/T menu. After recording and deleting any DTCs, they will use the Data Analysis function to monitor sensor outputs. If the sensors show continuous and changing output while driving, the wiring is likely fine. However, if there's no continuous output, it suggests a fault in the EOP or its harness.

Further diagnosis involves visually inspecting the wiring harness between the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) and the transmission for any damage, open circuits, or improperly seated pins. Any identified damage must be repaired before proceeding.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair procedure varies depending on whether the DTCs point to a High Flow EOP (HF EOP) or High Pressure EOP (HP EOP) issue. If HF EOP DTCs are present, the HF EOP will be replaced. If HP EOP DTCs are found, the entire Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) assembly will be replaced.

For High Flow EOP (HF EOP) replacement:

1. Record radio presets and disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Raise the vehicle and locate the HF EOP on the lower left side of the DCT, facing the radiator.
4. Disconnect the harness connector and remove the four bolts securing the HF EOP, then remove the pump.
5. Confirm the O-ring is properly inserted in the transmission case.
6. Install the new HF EOP with four new O-rings and torque the bolts to 15-19 lb-ft (2-3 kg.m, 21-26 N.m).
7. Check and adjust the gear oil level by removing the filler plug on the driver's side of the DCT. Add gear oil, part number 00232-19100, until it overflows in a steady stream.
8. Reinstall the air cleaner, reconnect the battery, and reprogram the radio preset stations.

For High Pressure EOP (HP EOP) replacement (requires DCT replacement):

1. The Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) assembly will be replaced. This is a more extensive repair.
2. After DCT replacement, perform the control oil level checking procedure. Use a suitable tool at least 5.5 inches (140mm) long.
3. Add control oil, part number 00232-19101, as needed to reach the specified level of 4.3-4.7 inches (110-120 mm) from the top of the DCT case.

Following either repair, a GDS S/W Update and specific Double Clutch Transmission procedures must be performed. These include system identification, an 8 Wet Type DCT Judder Test, forced HF EOP driving, transmission learning, transmission initialization, and air bleeding diagnosis. Finally, the vehicle will be driven to confirm proper transmission shifting.
