• 52 20 9 473 697: This is the actuator for the folding backrest in vehicles built prior to March 28, 2025. This part is being discontinued.
• 52 20 5 B6C 6A1: This is the new actuator for the folding backrest in vehicles built after March 28, 2025. It can also be retrofitted into vehicles built before March 28, 2025, when coupled with the ISTA/P conversion.

Important Warnings for Repair

When replacing the 2025 BMW X7 third row seat actuator, technicians must observe specific instructions to prevent issues:

• If using the old part number 52 20 9 473 697 (for vehicles built prior to March 28, 2025), DO NOT PROGRAM the vehicle. The ISTA/P conversion software is NOT NEEDED in this case.
• To install the new part number 52 20 5 B6C 6A1 into a vehicle built prior to March 28, 2025, it is mandatory to replace the headrest actuators in both the driver's and passenger's third-row seats simultaneously. Additionally, the ISTA/P conversion titled "Replace 3rd row actuator" must be performed. This procedure will add the option code +AA3S to the Vehicle Order, which reverses the spindle drive direction.
• If installing the new part number 52 20 5 B6C 6A1 into a vehicle built after March 28, 2025, only the defective side actuator needs to be replaced.
