• Only properly trained personnel who have passed applicable HV Technical Training Courses should perform repairs involving HV battery components. "Work performed on High Voltage systems by unqualified persons may result in severe injury or damage to the vehicle."
• Before disconnecting or removing any HV component, the HV system must be disabled and secured by a properly trained HV technician.
• For Generation 5 vehicles, specific vehicle training is required to diagnose, remove, and service any HV component. It is "NOT allowed for non HV certified technicians to work on the high voltage system."

Owners of affected 2025 BMW i5 vehicles may experience a "significant limitation in the charging capacity when vehicle is be charged with DC." This is directly related to an internal system error rather than a physical component failure.

Cause of the Issue

The root cause of the limited BMW i5 charging capacity is an incorrect operating time (OT) value written to the Storage Management Electronics (SME). This error occurred during the high-voltage battery “End Of Line” (EOL) test at the factory, where the operating time value was set too high.

Repair Procedure Summary

The correction involves adjusting the operating hours counter within the SME. BMW dealerships will follow a specific procedure for this Service Action:

1. Technicians must start an IRAP (Integrated Repair and Programming) session for the vehicle.
2. A TSARA Hotline case must be submitted with the title "SERVICE ACTION: CONTROL UNIT (SME)".
3. Further instructions for correcting the operating hours counter will be provided through the TSARA Hotline case.

Only one of these flat rate labor operation codes can be claimed per workshop visit. Technicians are required to reference the SIB number, the issue, and the work package number in their RO notes and claim comments (e.g., "B61 08 25 Correct SME OT Value WP 1").
