Symptoms

• A diagnostic software error in the IFM control unit could cause the "Service Engine Soon (MIL) to illuminate" even if no underlying fault is present.
• An OBD scan tool may be used to clear faults, but the "fault stays stored in permanent fault memory." In this scenario, the Service Engine Soon light may turn off, but the fault code itself is not permanently cleared from the system.

Cause of the Issue

The root cause of these symptoms is a diagnostic software error within the Integrated Fuel Module (IFM) control unit. This error leads to incorrect fault detection or improper fault memory management, even when the fuel system is functioning correctly.

Repair Procedure Summary

The correction for this issue involves updating the vehicle's software. The preferred method for this Delivery Stop/Service Action, SIB 16 01 25, is a Remote Software Update (RSU). If RSU is not available for a particular vehicle, or if the current RSU software is below version 03/2025.30, the software update must be performed using ISTA programming.

For ISTA programming, technicians will connect a battery charger and the vehicle to ISTA. They will then determine and accept the measures plan, working through it to program and encode the necessary control units. After programming, a vehicle test and fault memory deletion are required.

Important Warnings

• It is imperative that programming is carried out with the above-mentioned, or a more recent I-level. Using an incorrect or outdated software version will not resolve the issue.
• Vehicles subject to this delivery stop cannot be delivered to customers until the Integrated Fuel Module software update is completed.
• No additional parts are required for this repair, as it is solely a software update.

Required Software Versions

To resolve the Integrated Fuel Module issue, the vehicle software must be updated to specific I-level versions:

• Required I-level: S18A-25-03-530 or later.
• If RSU is not available or the current I-level is lower than 03/2025.30, the vehicle software needs to be updated to S18A-24-07-535 or higher via ISTA.
• ISTA Version: ISTA 4.51.1x with an installed service data package is required for programming/encoding. The solution is included from ISTA 4.52.15 SDP, planned for release on February 25, 2025.
