2022-2025 Audi Pre Sense Warning, Jolt, or Braking TSB

Symptoms

Owners of affected Audi vehicles may experience the "Audi pre sense" safety system activating without an apparent reason. This can manifest in several ways:

• An "Audi pre sense front warning" appearing on the instrument cluster.
• An "Audi pre sense front warning jolt," which is a brief, noticeable brake application.
• Unintended "Audi pre sense front emergency braking."

Technicians often find that the complaint, such as a false 2024 Audi S3 pre sense warning, cannot be reproduced during a road test, making diagnosis challenging.

Diagnosis and Trigger Conditions

To diagnose the issue, technicians will perform the "Audi pre sense test program." This program is located within the vehicle's diagnostic system under Test plan > Select self-test > Body > Electrical system > 01 - On Board Diagnostic capable systems > 0013 - Control Module for Adaptive Cruise Control -J428- > 0013 - Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) > Audi pre sense.

The test program requires the technician to enter the date of the customer's complaint. It then checks for any "Audi pre sense" front interventions that occurred within a six-day window (three days before and three days after the entered date). The program provides a list of these interventions, which helps in identifying the root cause of the false 2024 Audi S3 pre sense warning or other related symptoms.

Understanding Audi Pre Sense Interventions

Audi's pre sense system is designed to assist drivers in critical situations. The TSB details the various stages and functions of the system:

• Audi pre sense warning: Provides visual and acoustic alerts if the vehicle approaches another vehicle too closely.
• Audi pre sense warning jolt: If the driver does not react to warnings, the ABS control unit J104 issues a short, noticeable brake application to regain the driver's attention.
• Driver-triggered emergency braking: If the driver applies the brakes but not sufficiently, the system increases braking performance to prevent a collision.
• Automatic partial braking (preliminary stage): Similar to the warning jolt, this is a short, sharp brake application if warnings are ignored.
• Automatic partial braking (main stage): Full emergency braking is triggered if a collision is imminent and unavoidable.
• Swerve support: Active at speeds above 19 mph, this function provides steering torque to assist the driver in correcting the steering angle during lane changes or collision avoidance.
• Brake dead time minimization: The hydraulic brake system is pre-charged in hazardous situations, resulting in a slight jolt.
• Turn-off function (turn assist): Initiates emergency braking during left turns at speeds up to 9 mph to prevent frontal collisions with oncoming vehicles.

Important Notes for Owners

Owners should be aware that the Audi pre sense system only stores the last four events in each category. The "Audi pre sense test program" should generally be performed only once per complaint. However, if a customer reports multiple instances of the issue, the test program may be run a maximum of three times for that specific complaint.
