Audi has issued an updated Technician Report (Version 1.1, effective 9-8-2020-US) outlining the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) procedures for 2021 Audi Q7 and SQ7 vehicles. This comprehensive checklist ensures that all new vehicles meet Audi's quality standards before customer delivery. The document, which serves as the official 2021 Audi Q7 PDI checklist, details numerous checks across various vehicle systems.

Key Updates in this Report

This revised Audi Technician Report introduces specific updates to the PDI process. For the Vehicle Preparation section, technicians are now required to verify the Audi phone box customer registration form is present and to add the serial number, "FCC ID", and Model from Elsa (if equipped). This update references TSB 2051720 for further details. Additionally, the Media / Radio / SAT section now mandates confirming that SiriusXM is on and in an active state, allowing scrolling through channels and hearing music.

Important Warnings for Owners

This document contains critical information for owners of 2021 Audi Q7 and SQ7 vehicles, particularly concerning the Audi phone box and emergency call system:

  • Emergency Call System: "The vehicle must not be delivered to the customer if the emergency call function has not been successfully activated (LED lights up in green)". It may take up to 20 minutes for the emergency call system to activate after flight/transport mode deactivation.
  • Audi Phone Box Operation: The Audi Phone Box is a consumer device, and "BEFORE USE, you MUST REGISTER THIS DEVICE with your wireless provider and have your provider's consent." Owners are also advised that "You MUST operate this device with approved antennas and cables as specified by the manufacturer." and "Antennas MUST be installed at least 20 cm (8 inches) from any person." Furthermore, "You MUST cease operating this device immediately if requested by the FCC or a licensed wireless service provider."
  • E911 Location Information: A significant warning states: "WARNING. E911 location information may not be provided or may be inaccurate for calls served by using this device."
  • Fuel Requirement: Vehicles "Must fuel with 91 Octane or higher."

Pre-Delivery Inspection Overview

The 2021 Audi Q7 PDI checklist mandates that all items must be completed by a certified Audi technician prior to customer delivery. Technicians are instructed to use an Audi approved battery charger to prevent excessive discharge and to utilize Guided Fault Finding, ensuring sessions are completed and sent to GFF Paperless. The Total PDI Test must be finalized before any other scan tool work. For items marked with an asterisk (*), technicians should refer to the PDI Technician Reference Document on ServiceNet, and for items marked with a double asterisk (**), specific instructions for stock inventory vehicles apply.

Detailed Inspection Areas

The PDI covers a wide array of vehicle systems and components, ensuring thorough preparation. Key areas include:

  • Vehicle Preparation: Checking for open campaigns and updates, verifying the Audi phone box customer registration, performing diagnostics, and installing the front license plate carrier if necessary.
  • Exterior: Inspecting all key buttons, door operations, and checking for any damage, dings, dents, or surface scratches, which must be reported and repaired before delivery.
  • Lighting and Windshield: Testing exterior lighting functions and windshield washers, including headlight washers.
  • Trunk Inspection: Verifying power tailgate operation, proper installation of the wheel bolt cover removal tool, tool kit, tire repair kit, compressor, and inflatable spare tire.
  • Interior: Checking the luggage cover, seat belts, window/lock/seat controls, mirrors, interior lights, heated steering wheel, heated/ventilated/massaging seats, manual folding 2nd row and power folding 3rd row seats, climate control, power outlets, panoramic sunroof, glove compartment, front Passenger Occupant Detection System, and rear side manual sunshades.
  • Settings: Verifying MMI® touch screens, setting time to "Automatic setting" and "Automatic time zone", setting language and measurement units, and confirming Speech Dialog System operation.
  • Driver Assistance: Verifying cruise control, ACC with Traffic jam assist, Audi side assist, Audi active lane assist, night vision camera, parking system, Traffic sign recognition, Head-up display, and High-beam assistant. Activating navigation and following directions back to the dealership is also part of the check.
  • On-Hoist Inspection: This involves checking steering, boots, brake system, hoses, tires, wheels for damage, fluid leaks, loose components, and inspecting wheel bolts for proper torque. Tire pressures are set and stored for either sold or stock inventory vehicles.
  • Driving Performance: Checks include horn operation, electronic parking brake, engine Start-Stop System functionality, engine performance, acceleration, transmission operation (including shift paddles), brake performance, adaptive air suspension, steering/tire alignment, and addressing any squeaks, rattles, or wind noises. Rear view mirror calibration and radio reception quality are also verified.
  • Post-Road Test Inspection: This critical stage involves verifying the SOS button is green and the Roadside assistance button LED remains off. Technicians must interrogate fault memory, upload diagnostic logs, check service intervals, engine oil, and all fluid levels. The yellow tire pressure tag must be installed on the steering wheel, and a 30 Day Inventory Maintenance Sticker applied.
  • Audi connect® (USA ONLY): This section includes turning on the Wi-Fi® hotspot, checking its visibility, and enabling satellite map view for navigation.

This comprehensive 2021 Audi Q7 PDI checklist ensures that every new Audi Q7 and SQ7 vehicle is meticulously prepared and inspected to deliver a premium customer experience.
