The root cause of this issue is a production error. An incorrect front radiator grille was installed on these vehicles during manufacturing. This specific grille design did not accommodate the standard front license plate bracket, leading to its omission. Audi states that this error has since been corrected in production, allowing newer vehicles to have the front license plate bracket simply clipped to the radiator grille.

Repair Procedure Summary

This involves ordering a new front license plate bracket and specific screws. The new bracket will need to be modified by cutting off three lower tabs and two screw barrels using a rotary cut-off tool to ensure it sits flush against the radiator grille.

Finally, the license plate is positioned, and two N 10547902 self-tapping screws are inserted through the license plate, bracket, and into the grille. Two additional N 90915901 self-tapping screws are installed into the upper license plate holes and into the bracket to secure the assembly.
