Audi has released Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 01 24 45 2075194/1 to address customer concerns regarding audible whistling or hissing noises emanating from the engine compartment. This bulletin applies to 2022-2025 Audi Q5 and Q5 Sportback models equipped with the 2.0 Itr inline 4-cyl. TFSI engine.

The TSB clarifies that the observed "Audi Q5 engine whistling" is a characteristic of normal turbocharger operation. It also provides a recommended procedure for dealerships to mitigate the sound's audibility within the vehicle's interior.

Symptoms

Owners of affected vehicles may notice specific sounds from the engine area. The primary customer complaint is that "Whistling or hissing noises from the engine compartment can be heard in the interior when accelerating or suddenly releasing the accelerator."

Workshop findings confirm that this customer statement can be consistently reproduced during diagnostic checks.

Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions

Audi's technical background for this issue indicates that in certain operating situations, the sound produced by the turbocharger can be transferred into the vehicle's interior. This is identified as a normal operational characteristic of the turbocharger system.

Therefore, the presence of an "Audi Q5 engine whistling" or hissing sound under acceleration or deceleration is not indicative of a fault or malfunction.

Repair Procedure Summary

To address customer comfort concerns related to the engine noise, Audi outlines a specific service procedure in TSB 01 24 45 2075194/1. The steps involve enhancing the vehicle's sound insulation.

Initially, technicians are instructed to install noise insulation for the hood, following the guidelines provided in the workshop manual. After this installation, the noise complaint should be reassessed.

If the noise persists and remains a concern for the customer, additional measures can be employed. These include using other materials, such as butyl cord, as described in the attached documentation.

Warranty claims for this service should reference Service Number 7017 and Damage Code 0020. Specific labor operations include 7017 1900 for removing and installing engine compartment noise insulation, 6644 1950 for removing and installing cowl panel trim (if necessary), and 5034 5299 for sealing the plenum chamber and performing a visual inspection of the cap seal (if necessary).

Important Warnings

Audi emphasizes a crucial point for both technicians and owners regarding this issue. The bulletin explicitly states: "The noise described is normal turbocharger operating noise. In rare cases, this noise may be heard in the vehicle interior. The above measure can be used to reduce the vehicle interior noise."

Furthermore, it clarifies: "This is only a comfort complaint. Please explain to the customer that no negative effects on wear or vehicle condition are to be expected." This means the "Audi Q5 engine whistling" does not indicate a mechanical problem, safety risk, or impact on the vehicle's longevity or performance.

Owner Action

If you own a 2022-2025 Audi Q5 or Q5 Sportback and experience whistling or hissing noises from the engine compartment, you should contact your authorized Audi dealership. While the noise is considered normal, the dealership can perform the recommended service procedure to reduce its audibility in the cabin.

It is important to understand that this is a comfort-related issue and does not signify a defect or a safety concern. Warranty claims are processed according to Audi's policies, and the TSB notes that if the vehicle is outside of any warranty, the bulletin serves as informational guidance only.
