New vehicle delivery is a critical step, and Audi ensures every vehicle meets stringent quality standards through a thorough Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI). This manufacturer communication, identified by NHTSA ID 10187904, provides a detailed checklist for technicians preparing 2021 Audi Q5, Q5 PHEV, Q5 Sportback, and SQ5 models for customer delivery. The 2021 Audi Q5 pre-delivery inspection covers everything from basic functionality to advanced driver assistance systems and connectivity features.

Reminders for Technicians

Before beginning the PDI, technicians must adhere to several key reminders:

  • All inspection items must be completed by a certified Audi technician prior to customer delivery.
  • An Audi-approved battery charger should be used to prevent excessive battery discharge during the inspection process.
  • Guided Fault Finding (GFF) must be utilized, and the session completed and sent to GFF Paperless.
  • The Total PDI Test must be finished before any other work involving the scan tool.
  • Guided Fault Finding should be initiated with the engine running to properly identify control modules in transport mode.
  • Items marked with an asterisk (*) require reference to the PDI Technician Reference Document on ServiceNet for additional information.
  • Items marked with a double asterisk (**) require specific instructions for stock inventory vehicles.

Vehicle Preparation Checks

Initial checks focus on the vehicle's readiness and essential installations:

  • Verify open campaigns and updates via Elsa.
  • Perform any open campaigns.
  • Confirm the Audi phone box customer registration form is present and add the serial number, FCC ID, and Model from Elsa (if equipped). Refer to TSB 2051720 for guidance.
  • Perform any necessary diagnostics work.
  • Install the front license plate carrier if required.

Exterior, Lighting, and Windshield Checks

These steps ensure the vehicle's exterior, lighting, and visibility components are in perfect order:

  • Check all key buttons and features.
  • Verify proper power closing for all doors (if equipped).
  • Inspect the exterior for any damage, dings, dents, or surface scratches. Any identified damage must be reported and repaired before customer delivery.
  • Prepare the base bars for customer delivery, installing them only upon customer request.

  • Test windshield washers and correct their aim if necessary.

Trunk and Interior Checks

Attention to detail extends to the trunk and interior for functionality and completeness:

Important Warnings for Owners

Owners of 2021 Audi Q5 and SQ5 vehicles should be aware of critical information regarding the emergency call system and Audi Phone Box functionality:

  • "The vehicle must not be delivered to the customer if the emergency call function has not been successfully activated (LED lights up in green)." This ensures a vital safety feature is fully operational before a new owner takes possession.
  • For Audi Phone Box-equipped vehicles, the operation is subject to Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements. This is a CONSUMER device. "BEFORE USE, you MUST REGISTER THIS DEVICE with your wireless provider and have your provider's consent." Most wireless providers consent to signal boosters, but some may not. Owners should contact their service provider if unsure.
  • "You MUST operate this device with approved antennas and cables as specified by the manufacturer." Antennas "MUST be installed at least 20 cm (8 inches) from any person."
  • "You MUST cease operating this device immediately if requested by the FCC or a licensed wireless service provider."
  • "WARNING. E911 location information may not be provided or may be inaccurate for calls served by using this device."

FCC Requirements for Signal Booster

The Signal Booster in Audi Phone Box-equipped vehicles complies with FCC requirements for the Network Protection Standard (NPS) to prevent harmful interference to wireless networks. Key features include:

  • Anti-oscillation to detect and mitigate unintended oscillations in uplink and downlink frequency bands.
  • Adaptive gain control with self-monitoring to power down automatically when approaching an affected base station.
  • Uplink Inactivity to shut down transmit amplifiers if not serving an active device connection.

These features are always enabled and operating when the signal booster is in use and cannot be deactivated by the operator.
