- #11772306October 20, 2026FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I am reporting an unexpected automatic emergency-braking event involving my 2026 Volvo EX30. On XXX, I was driving uphill on [XXX] near [XXX]. The street was narrow because of parked cars on both sides, and a black SUV was approaching downhill in the opposite direction. I deliberately slowed down and was proceeding cautiously as the two vehicles passed each other. The EX30 suddenly applied the brakes very hard on its own and gave a loud collision/braking warning. The braking lasted only a moment, but the entire car jerked abruptly. There did not appear to be an imminent collision, and I was already slowing and driving cautiously. I am concerned that an unexpected hard-braking intervention like this could create a safety hazard, particularly at higher speeds or if another vehicle were following closely behind. The contact owns a 2026 Volvo EX30. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the adaptive cruise control independently activated, and the vehicle independently accelerated. The failure was a persistent failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact was informed that the failure was an operator error. The contact was informed that by accidentally pressing the shifter two times, the adaptive cruise control feature was activated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the shifter was not pressed during the failure. The dealer was made aware of the failure another time. The contact was advised to video the failure and provide the video to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.
