My 2024 Chevrolet Trax is currently operating with a suspected internal engine defect tied to active Safety Recall A242435780. On 7/27/2026, Michael Hohl Chevrolet performed the software patch for this recall. However, severe internal engine noise remains. On my official repair order, the Shop Foreman test-drove the vehicle and explicitly documented: 'suspects could be something internal will need further diagnostics. Despite this documented internal engine concern tied to a federal safety recall, GM Corporate (Case #[XXX] (tel:[XXX])) and the dealership refuse to cover the diagnostic engine teardown. GM Customer Assistance formally told me to stop driving if the noise worsens, shifting the safety liability to me while refusing to remedy the defect. A sudden internal engine failure while driving will result in an immediate loss of motive power, power steering, and braking assistance, creating a severe crash hazard. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The instrument cluster and center console display intermittently appears to lose power, although in at least one incidence, the back-up camera display still worked while in reverse. Without instruments it is impossible to determine speed which can be hazardous. The vehicle is scheduled to be looked over by the dealer on 8/21/26. To my knowledge, there have not been any symptoms or warning signs prior to any of the incidents where a power loss occurred.

Headlight Issue While driving at night on a dark country road the headlights all of a sudden reduced visibility to about 5 feet and had a blacked out dead spot (like a dark shelf). We had to drive roughly 25 miles with this limited visibility which was extremely dangerous and nerve racking. The visibility range improved the next day but the dead spot (shelf) is still visible and visibility is still poor and limited to about 100 feet. This still makes night driving very difficult and dangerous. I contacted dealership regarding issue and all they did was raised the headlights 3 inches. This only raised the dead spot up a little bit but is still visible. I notified them a second time and no action was taken because there was no recall for this issue on vehicle. In 2022 models there was a recall for the exact same issue.

The check engine light illuminated on my 2024 Chevrolet Trax at 36,883 miles. An authorized Chevrolet dealer, Advantage Chevrolet of Bridgeview in Bridgeview, Illinois, diagnosed a failed evaporative emission canister purge pump and replaced it on August 6, 2026. I paid $729.46 out of pocket. I am filing this complaint because General Motors has already identified this exact part as defective and extended warranty coverage for it — but not for my model year. The part installed in my vehicle, shown on my invoice, is GM part number 25207556. That part number is listed by name in the Parts Information table of GM Special Coverage bulletin N242484740, which identifies four interchangeable evaporative emissions canister purge pumps: 12741165, 12741163, 25207556, and 12726033. That bulletin extends coverage on this component to 15 years or 150,000 miles for the 2022 Chevrolet Trax, 2022 Silverado 1500, 2022-2023 Blazer, and multiple Buick, Cadillac, and GMC models. A prior program covered 2020-2021 vehicles. My 2024 Trax failed with the same part number GM covers for fifteen years on the 2022 Trax. The failure occurred at 36,883 miles — five days after my 3-year bumper-to-bumper warranty expired on August 1, 2026, based on an in-service date of August 1, 2023. The failure illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp, which masks any other diagnostic trouble code that may set behind it, increases evaporative hydrocarbon emissions, and causes automatic failure of Illinois OBD-based emissions inspection. GM has now issued purge pump coverage extensions twice, for 2020-2021 and again for 2022-2023 vehicles. The same component is failing on 2024 vehicles at comparable mileage. I believe the defect extends to the 2024 and later model years and that coverage should be extended accordingly.

- #11754720August 4, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I was at a complete stop with my foot all the way down on my brake, sitting in traffic, and my car started rolling forward against my will. I pressed down on my brake again and the car did not stop. I almost rolled into the car in front of me. The forward collision warning did not sound. I put my car in park and it still did not stop. I then put it into reverse to avoid rolling into the car in front of me. The car stopped. I put it back in drive, and the car jolted forward and the brakes continued to work. I have since taken it in and the master cylinder was failing. My brakes were only working sometimes. I am incredibly lucky that this happened when my car was stopped and not at a high speed, on the freeway, or in an area where I could have accidentally hit a pedestrian. At the time of the incident, no lights have every been/were lit up on the dash alerting me to an issue or failure with the car. The problem was confirmed and reproduced at the dealership. The master cylinder has been replaced and the brake system update has been completed. I want to reiterate how incredibly ridiculous and dangerous this could have been. It is unacceptable that this is not a formal recall as I have been notified that there is general knowledge of this problem. I have 2 small children that were in the car with me and this could have ended very differently had the conditions been different.

We were driving on the highway when the Trax suddenly made a popping sound, all the electric went off, and then the engine cut off. We lost control of steering for a bit, we're able to get to the side of the road. We had the car towed to the local Chevrolet dealer for diagnostics. The service manager informed me the engine is unrepairable due to a hole in the engine block, likely where the engine threw a rod. In order to get the engine replaced we have to have it towed to a second dealership, which we are in the process of doing now. I just purchased this vehicle 3 weeks ago without knowing this issue was a possibility

The contact owns a 2024 Chevrolet Trax. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 - 50 MPH, the message that an update was needed was displayed. The contact selected to complete the update later; however, the computer system continued to perform the update, causing all indicators, screens, and displays to black out. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The following morning, the systems operated correctly, and the update had completed. While attempting to turn off the vehicle, the radio failed to turn off at the same time. The contact had to first turn off the radio manually. While driving approximately 40 MPH, the message “Power Steering Fluid Low - Drive with Care” was displayed. The contact was able to make it to a stoplight after idling and then attempting to make a left turn, but the vehicle failed to exceed 6 MPH. The contact drove to Auto Zone. A certified mechanic confirmed that the power steering fluid was low. The certified mechanic diagnosed the vehicle, and the check engine warning light was displayed. The contact confirmed that the warning light was illuminated; however, when the mechanic inspected the vehicle, the warning light was no longer illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was informed of the issue and was unable to provide a cause for the failure. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
