I own a 2023 BMW 530i affected by NHTSA recall campaign 26V-438 (BMW "Engine Starter" recall), issued July 8, 2026. Per BMW's own recall documentation, unexpected wear on an internal starter component can cause the starter to malfunction and, in an extreme case, cause a thermal event or fire when starting the engine OR while the engine is running. As of this complaint, BMW's official status for this recall is "Remedy not available" — there is no repair available and no timeline has been provided to me for when one will be. Because BMW has acknowledged a fire risk that can occur while the vehicle is being driven, and because no remedy exists, I have stopped driving the vehicle out of concern for the safety of myself and my two young children. I contacted BMW to request a loaner or alternative transportation until the recall can be repaired. BMW Recall Support Services declined, stating that no alternative transportation is provided for this recall and directing me to my local dealership. My local dealership declined and directed me back to BMW. I first requested that a case be opened on July 15, 2026, and have followed up multiple times by phone and email without resolution. I am left with a vehicle the manufacturer has identified as a fire risk during normal operation, no available fix, no repair timeline, and no alternative transportation. I am filing this complaint to document the safety defect and BMW's failure to provide interim relief while owners await a remedy. I request that NHTSA take this into account in monitoring the adequacy and timeliness of BMW's recall response. No crash, injury, or fire has occurred

After returning to my vehicle, I received an alert that the chassis stabilization system had a fault. The car was free, rolling and had no parking brake while it was on an incline. There was zero ability to turn the steering wheel. I consider this a life-threatening safety issue.

The recall 25V-636 remains unresolved after more than 6 month passed since the manufacturer issued the campaign regarding the engine starter. I would like to see the NHTSA to put the manufacturer on notice that this is unacceptable. We cannot park the vehicle outside of structures permanently as this devalues the vehicle and creates a loss of use.

- #11734926April 30, 2026VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Concern: The 2024 BMW 530i is equipped with "Dynamic Cruise Control" and a "Speed Limit Assistant." The system is designed to automatically adopt posted speed limits and adjust the cruise control set speed. However, because this specific trim lacks a radar-based distance-monitoring sensor (Active Cruise Control), the vehicle initiates aggressive, unintended acceleration toward slower-moving traffic or stopped obstacles whenever it detects a higher speed limit sign. Safety Risk: While the vehicle is using its cameras to "see" and adopt an external speed command, it remains "blind" to the actual traffic directly in its path. This creates a high risk of rear-end collisions, as the car will prioritize reaching the new speed limit even if it means accelerating directly into the bumper of a lead vehicle. Proposed Solution: A "Dynamic" cruise control system that has the authority to control acceleration based on external data MUST also have the authority to maintain a safe following distance. I propose that BMW should be required to include distance-monitoring features in all cruise control systems that utilize automated speed adoption. If the hardware for distance-keeping is not present, the car should not be permitted to automatically increase speed based on roadside signs. Inspection Status: The vehicle is available for inspection. No warning lamps appeared prior to these incidents, as the system is operating exactly as programmed by the manufacturer, which highlights a fundamental logic and design failure.

I have a 2021 BMW 530i. VIN [XXX] . I brought my vehicle to Pompano Beach BMW and Coconut Creek BMW in Florida. They said both my motor mounts have collapsed. I have discussed the matter with other experts and mechanics, and been told the failure of motor mounts is a serious safety issue and vehicle defect. I had stopped uphill, with my foot on the brake, heading East on the left lane of Pomona Road, at the approach to the Traffic Light Junction with Route 45, around 3.50 PM on Friday 1/23/2026. There were about 5-6 cars also stopped, ahead of me, at the Red Traffic Light and several cars behind me, when I heard my car engine rev up loudly. I kept applying the brake. I could hear my car tires spinning with a smell of burning rubber from the tires as they spun on the road, as my car lurched forward, and hit the rear of the stopped car ~ 5-7 feet ahead of me. I felt that I had no control of my car and turned the engine off after the collision. I called 911 twice at 3.55 PM and 4.12 PM and waited as advised, for the Police Officer who arrived about 30 mins later. I filed the report and the officer was able to retrieve my auto license plate which had fallen off from the road where I could clearly see the tire marks on the asphalt from the spinning tires at the time of the accident. The only message I recall receiving on the display was one that informed me that I had experienced a crash after the collision. I had never experienced this problem before. Later ,after the Police Officer had arrived and documented the accident, I was able to drive the car home. The burning smell from the tires persisted for some time. The next day I called the BMW dealer in the AM, and with great trepidation, drove the car to the BMW dealership. I explained to the Service Advisor on duty on the Saturday, what exactly had transpired during the accident. I also explained this later to the BMW Body Shop manager when I spoke with him. I requested a full inspection and investigation by BMW. I personally do not feel safe driving the car again after this most unnerving and frightening episode.

The center console screen has a default screen that in part includes interior fan speed temperature. To adjust the fan speed and other A/C settings, the driver has to click press a small button at the bottom of the screen to open a new window. This is very dangerous because it requires the driver to take their eyes off the road. The car should have physical buttons for the fan speed. Since it doesn't have physical buttons for the fan speed, the car should have permanent fan speed buttons at the bottom of the screen at all times. The bottom of the screen should include permanent buttons for air temperature, A/C on/off, and fan speed. BMW can easily do this with a software update. The car does include the ability to make these changes through voice commands, but the voice commands do not always work.

Good afternoon, I am writing regarding the recall affecting my BMW 2021 530i, VIN [XXX] . While I understand the importance of safety recalls, this issue has had a direct and measurable impact on the market value of my vehicle. Due to the recall, I have received reduced trade-in and resale offers, with dealers explicitly citing the recall as a reason for depreciation. This loss in value persists regardless of whether the recall remedy has been completed. I am therefore requesting compensation ($6000) for the depreciation caused by this recall, or financial adjustment or trade in. Please open a case on my behalf and advise on the next steps. I would appreciate this matter being reviewed by a regional case manager if necessary. Thank you for your attention. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Booked the appointment with BMW of Portland for November, 10,2025 For 9 o'clock AM. Arrived at dealership, checked in and left vehicle. I was called about 45 minutes later and informed that they would not be able to preform the recall repair on my car due to parts that were needed and associated with the recall , asked me to pay for it which I refused since it is part of the recall repair. I have never come across a vehicle recall where parts were not covered with the recall. I find this very strange, please investigate.

- #11690264September 29, 2025BACK OVER PREVENTION: WARNINGS, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Sensors around vehicle are faulty and break and/or become dysfunctional very easily. Improper and/or no warning provides false sense of security or danger. BMW is requesting customers pay to address the faulty product sensors. Service representative informed me that it is a known issue but the manufacturer has yet to deal with the problem. Vehicle has only 20K miles on it and in perfect condition besides these faulty sensors.

- #11679855August 11, 2025BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA
Front right sensor not working as of 05-23-2024. Approximately seven weeks later the backup camera quit working. Dealers claims right front sensor chipped and no report on why the rear camera not working. If I back into my garage or pulling into a parking space with a car already parked or a wall, the parking assistance does not function. However, from time to time, it starts to work again! The dealer's comment is the sensor is damaged due to "outside influence". I literally had to get a magnifying glass and a flashlight to see the chip on the sensor. The sensor has no visible cracks or damage other than my comment in the prior sentence. Vehicle was brought in when I received the alert "Parking Assistance limited e.g. due to dirt on the sensors. Clean if necessary." Dealer would not remove the bumper to inspect the sensor, said it would take 3-4 hours to visually inspect the sensor, instead relied on software for their analysis. Said the rear camera not working because it is something related thru out the car with the other sensors even though this issue appeared 7 weeks later.

- #11657485April 29, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, AIR BAGS
I am unknown of what system has failed but the issue is that while the car is in motion, it will completely shut off. All Electrical will disengage and there have been times where a pop up has come on my screen stating that air bags and seat belts are non functioning to get to a service station as soon as possible. It has happened multiple times while driving on a large highway. This is a severe safety issue and I am so thankful I have not suffered serious injuries due to a major accident. The vehicle is unsafe and I do not feel comfortable driving it with myself nor guest in the car.

Brakes did not work properly, brakes were hard and vehicle was not stopping, the vehicle was difficult to control because steering wheel was very hard too. This incident caused the vehicle to take a significant distance to stop and almost cause a crash with the vehicle in front. The incident was reported to dealer, dealer representative said there was a recall on the IBS and requested vehicle to be taken to dealership to replace defective part of the IBS. This recall was never notified to us (customers) by the manufacturer nor by the dealer. No warning messages or symptoms were presented before the brakes failure. Defective part was replaced by dealer at not cost to the us (customers).
