My 2022 Acura MDX lost motive power due to a transmission and transfer case failure at 64,306 miles. The transmission first became jumpy shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, then began whining and self-correcting. The jerking worsened in stop-and-go traffic until the vehicle became stuck in low gear and at times lost all gears completely. On the drive to the dealer, it nearly would not go into gear at all, and I did not think it was going to make it. The dealer (Crown Acura, [XXX], repair order #XXX) found the transmission fluid level low and the transfer case fluid dark, indicating the two fluids had been mixing. Diagnostic codes present were described by the dealer as transmission failure codes. After removing the transfer case, the dealer found brown sludge and worn connections between the transfer case and transmission, and noted the vehicle was not far from the relatively common failure of the transfer case. Both the transmission and the transfer case were replaced, and the transmission control module was reprogrammed with a new module. The vehicle was in the shop for approximately six weeks. The repair was covered under the certified pre-owned powertrain warranty at no cost to me. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On Saturday 10/24/26 at approximately 6:45 PM I pulled into my garage and pressed the engine button to shutdown the car after parking in my home garage. I was about to open the door and exit when the engine started again. I shutdown the engine once again and safely exited the car with my 13year old daughter. I returned within 15 minutes and attempted to restart the car to examine the dashboard engine lights, it was then I discovered that I was unable to start the car and a warning was displayed on the dashboard that no KEY FOB was present although I was holding it near the start button. I retrieved my spare key fob and attempted to start the engine and noted the same error. The battery on both key fobs had been recently replaced with new batteries. I waited about an hour and attempted to start the engine unsuccessfully once again, the same error displayed "NO KEY FOB present, please place the fob near the start button to engage the engine. I waited approximately 8 hours and was able to restart the engine with no error or issue. This was a very dangerous incident as my daughter and I were in the process of existing the 2019 MDX when the engine started and could have potentially driven through the garage wall.

The contact owns a 2025 Acura MDX. The contact stated upon coming to a complete stop at an intersection downhill, the engine turned off while the instrument panel and infotainment center remained operable. The contact was unsure if the engine Auto START/STOP system was engaged during the failure. The message "Shift to Park" was displayed. The contact attempted to shift to park(P), to turn off and restart the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to respond. The message "Transmission Error-Take to Acura Dealer" was displayed. The contact's husband arrived on the scene to assist, but the Police advised the contact that an emergency tow was required due to the potential crash. The Police requested emergency towing services, and the vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Action Number: EA25004 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The selling dealer, Acura of Memphis (2611 Ridgeway Rd, Memphis, TN 38119) and the manufacturer were contacted by email. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.

The auto-stop feature engaged after I stopped at a traffic light. When attempting to begin moving again the vehicle, it would not move upon pressing the gas peddle like it typically does. Vehicle gave alerts stating “system issue shift to park” but I could not shift out of Drive. Police had to be called as cars were flying by and I had two kids in the back. Very scary situation. Eventually while waiting for a tow I googled the issue and saw recommendation to turn off the car, open and close the door. At this point the alert said “transmission issue engage emergency brake” which I did and was then able to start the car and move it. I took the car to the dealer the next day and dealer said it was a starter issue and replaced the starter under warranty. They acknowledged this is a known issue caused by the starter not reengaging after the car stops with auto start stop feature engaged. There is no way to turn off this feature without manually pressing a button each time you start the car. It never happened before and I have had this vehicle since May 2025, and has never happened again since, although I now immediately turn off the feature everytime I remember to. It is an extremely dangerous situation to be in and leaves the driver not knowing how to move the car. Shutting the car off alone did not fix the issue, but opening and closing the door and waiting 30 seconds managed to get the car to start again. Luckily the police responded quickly and blocked traffic before someone hit me. I believe something like this should be worthy of a recall as it can leave people in a very dangerous situation.

Vehicle had oil leak from transmission/transfer case area. Repair shop discovered splines worn where transmission driveshaft and transfer case meet. A common issue apparently. Caused vehicle to only work as a FWD instead of a FWD vehicle. Was advised transmission and transfer case need replaced a cost of 12-13k for a used pair.

While stopped at a stop light the auto restart feature engaged and shut the engine off. When the light turned green and I released the brake pedal the engine did not restart and the battery warning light illuminated. As cars were honking I activated my hazards, had to place the car in park and shut off/restart the vehicle. Luckily it restarted and I was able to proceed home. It activated again while stopped to get mail at mailbox and restarted with no issue. Mileage is 42668. Recall 23-001 PGMfi performed 8/2023. Battery replaced 12/2024.

My 2020 Acura MDX fails to restart after the Auto Idle Stop system shuts off the engine at stops. The vehicle stalls and will not restart in active traffic, including busy intersections and high-speed roads. This began about three years ago and now happens every day, leaving my family stranded in live traffic lanes at risk of a collision. On [XXX], the engine shut off and would not restart in the middle of the [XXX], with traffic moving around me at about 40 mph. Capitol Acura in San Jose diagnosed a failing starter motor and ordered a replacement under repair order [XXX]. The part has been on backorder since, with no delivery date. I escalated to American Honda / Acura Client Relations on October 13, 2026 (case [XXX]). On [XXX], Acura replied only that it is "still reviewing" my request. No loaner or alternate vehicle has been provided, and no repair timeline has been given. I am concerned this is a defect affecting other MDX owners: a starter that fails under frequent Auto Idle Stop cycling, combined with a parts shortage that leaves unsafe vehicles on the road. I request that NHTSA review this issue for a possible investigation or recall. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On three separate occasions, 2/27/26, 9/9/26, and 9/23/26 the Idle stop/start feature was inoperable and caused the vehicle to shut down. Upon attempting to turn the vehicle back on, vehicle would not immediately start back up. Inoperable and a major safety concern since this happened at a red light that was turning green. This poses a great concern due to traffic approaching the light while green not noticing the vehicle is stopped, as the entire vehicle shuts off when this happens. There is no way to get the vehicle moving again, so if there is traffic approaching, there is no way to avoid it or get out of the way. This was inspected by the dealership on 2/27/26 and dealer replaced the starter. Then this happened again on 9/9/26 and 9/23/26 - dealer replaced starter again.

There is a reaccuring safety defect issue where the engine completely shutts off and stalls without warning when the car comes to a stop. This can be at a stop sign, stop lights, or just stopping the car when in traffic, even on the highway. This is due to the IDS (Auto Idle Stop system). A couple exteme safetyhazards that have occured: The car has repeatedly shut down while we are in the middle of the highway during stop and go traffic leaving us stranded in in live lanes of traffic with the car just completely shutting down and glitching. It would take multiple attempts to turn the car on in order to get out of the situation. There have been close calls on rear-end collisions as a result of this. The issue also progressively worsens during super cold or super hot weather further reflecting the starter/software issues. During other occasions, the car completely failed to restart or delayed restarts that took 5+ hours long once the car "cooled down" from being parked in the sun. We have taken the car to an authrozied acura delarship on atleast two seperate occasion to address the racall issue. On top of these more severe situations, atleast once a week i will get stuck on a stop sign were the shuts down and then i am stuck for a few minutes trying to get it to turn on. However, the issue had ZERO improvement. The defect remains entirely unresolved and feels unsafe to operate. For the safety of my family and for your own massive legal and manufaturere liability due to the immenet threat of accidents, severe injury, or death, please resolve ASAP.

We purchased this 2023 Acura MDX less than a year ago and are under the 4 year 48,000 mile extended warranty, but also purchased warrantees to cover both the interior and exterior of the vehicle to have a worry-free experience for the entire life of the loan on the vehicle at the strong recommendation by the GM of the dealership. We had the vehicle serviced for an oil change on XXX and had no issues with the vehicle and nothing came up on their inspection while servicing. A week went by and we had a rain storm over the weekend and my wife noticed that the floor of the driver side was wet and then noticed the passenger side front was damp as well. She called the dealership to report it and brought the vehicle in right away to see what's going on. We were told that the cost of repair would be $3,450 to replace the rug and clear the drain house and make sure it no longer leaks. We were told they could clean and dry out the rug if wanted to go the least expensive route and would be about $2,000. We were told that because it was caused by external factors (rain and debris) that caused the drain hose to back up and cause water to leak into the car in multiple spots and would not be covered under ANY of the warrantees and would have to be paid out of pocket. After a bunch of discussions and back and forth we were told that we could submit it to our car insurance to help with some of the out of pocket coverage. We did not own the car last fall for enough debris to be in the drains, it is september weather (just officially fall) and only rained out as it does in [XXX]. We have other cars with sunroofs and neighbors with sunroofs with no problems. This repair should not be out of pocket and should be paid at the expense of Acura dealership and not by the owners who have spent thousands on fees, payments, warranty coverage, etc. We do not have the money to pay for this damage and now weeks have gone by with no resolve and are now also concerned with mold issues. I have had a problem with the "Auto Idle Stop" in my 2025 Acura MDX. While at a stop light 2 different times and at a stop sign 1 time the car engine shut off as it should. Upon letting off the brake and pressing the gas the car would not go. It stayed in Park and I could not get it to go. The engine would not turn back on. I received a warning light that said "depress brake and push start". Upon doing this the car still would not start. I had to open the door, shut door, push brake and then start the car. Dealer confirmed that this has been an issue.

The contact owns a 2020 Acura MDX. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under Technical Service Bulletins: 22-009, 22-024, and 23-002; however, the failure persisted following the repairs. The contact stated that while stopped at an intersection, the engine failed to restart after the Auto Start/Stop feature engaged, and the transmission independently shifted to Neutral (N). The contact shifted the transmission to Park (P) and pressed the Engine Start/Stop button to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the starter required replacement. The dealer requested that the manufacturer replace the starter; however, the request was denied. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Action Number: EA25004 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was 70,357.

Water leakage into the right tailgate lid light assembly caused it to malfunction. In the photo you can see water pooled in the right lower corner. There is a recall for this specific issue for the year/make/model of my vehicle (NHTSA ID 25V259000). However my VIN is not included. I took my vehicle to the dealership and they confirmed that moisture was entering the tailgate lid light assembly which caused the light to fail. There was a warranty extension issued in July 2025 that expired in November 2025 related to this issue that applied to my specific vehicle. However I was not having this safety issue at the time and did not receive notification so I was unaware of the warranty extension. [XXX] I am reporting this as a safety complaint because it is the exact issue for which a recall was issued, yet Acura did not include my vehicle based on its VIN. Therefore it is possible they did not include all vehicles for which this problem may occur. Because the failure of the taillight due to a defect is a safety issue increasing crash risk, this should have been included in the recall rather than just a 6 month warranty extension. - #11771499October 15, 2026STRUCTURE:BODY, ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
As I was driving in a stop and go traffic jam, the vehicle would not go forward although I was pressing on the gas pedal, the engine stall and when it finally reacted after pressing it for the second time it went too fast that I couldn’t stop in time to avoid rear ending the other vehicle, the emergency braking system did not function properly either. This has happened multiple times even when I driven on highways and there’s incoming traffic and the engine goes on stall. But this time it led to an unavoidable accident. I have been concerned for a long time about this issue but I have never received a recall to remedy this problem.

My 2022 Acura MDX has transmission issues that started at 99,000 miles. After inspection as to why the drive shaft is spinning freely - they pulled the transfer case off and noticed that the teeth are worn down to almost flat, which is cause ing the transmission not to send power to the real wheels. This is consistent with multiple documented transmission - PTU spline failures on 2022-2023 Acura MDXs (reference NHSTA Investigation DP26-001).

My 2025 Acura MDX A-Spec Advance (VIN [XXX]) twice failed to restart after the Auto Idle Stop system shut the engine off — on XXX (~2:00 PM CDT) and again on October 10, 2026 (2:20 PM CDT). The vehicle was immobilized and would not restart. Sterling Acura of Austin ([XXX]) diagnosed a failed starter on XXX: bench testing showed 9.7 amp draw with voltage drop below 7.3V. The dealer replaced the starter motor (part 31200-5MR-A03) under warranty, test drove 10+ miles, cleared codes, and verified the repair. A no-restart after auto idle stop leaves the vehicle without motive power in traffic, which is a safety hazard. This matches the subject of NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25004 (No Restart After Auto Start/Stop Engages, 2016–2025 MDX).
