What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Rear hatch window shatter spontaneously while driving this morning. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The entire window is in pieces. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Shop confirmed the problem when they had to replace our window. There’s also online threads showing that this exact situation is not unique. See here: [XXX] Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Insurance reps Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. No warnings or signs of damage appeared. I was pulling into my parking spot after a 25 minutes long drive with the back windshield defroster on due to fogging. The back windshield popped and then completely shattered. The pop was startling and the shattering completely prevents the driver from seeing out of the back window l. There are several reports of the problem occurring to other drivers online. The car will be inspected by the dealer soon.

The back window in my HRV popped and shattered on September 14, 2023. I was driving down the highway when it happened. It took until October 13, 2023 to get it replaced. I drove home from work and parked my car. October 14, 2023, I went out to my car and it had popped and shattered. It started in the same spot each time. The dealer is telling me there’s nothing they can do about it. Which leaves me without a car to drive. The first time this happened, I knew nothing about the windows in the HRV’s shattering, so I had it fixed through my insurance company.

Back window of car shattered while driving. No impact from foreign objects. There was no warning- glass will be replaced by safelite in which they explained they had 6 cars with the same issue. As I googled the situation, it seems as if this has been an ongoing problem with Honda and some of the Acura models.

I drove the vehicle in the rain with the front and rear wipers on and the rear defrost on. After pulling into a parking space and turning off the car, I unloaded items from the car and closed all of the doors. Upon returning to the parking lot, others in the lot informed me that there had been a cracking sound and glass in the upper left-hand corner of the rear windshield had fallen into the trunk. They confirmed that there had not been an impact which caused the crack and there was nothing in the trunk to suggest an impact. While attempting to cover the rear windshield in the rain, more of the glass fell into the trunk. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for evaluation. Had this occurred while the vehicle was operating, it could have posed a safety risk for individuals in the back seat and a distraction risk for the driver.

Within 10 minutes of turning on the rear defroster, the rear window shattered. Glass fell into the car, but no object was found inside the car. It was about 60F outside, and the sun had set ~5 hours prior. This specific vehicle has not been inspected for this issue prior to the incident, and the dealership was unable/unwilling to look at the rear defroster without first replacing the rear window. We still have the rear window, which could be made available upon request.

Today the rear windshield of my 2023 Honda HR-V shattered instantaneously while the car was parked in my driveway. The car was outside during a cold night and then warm day so I wonder if the temperature change impacted the glass. I see other reports online of rear windshield shattering, but no recall. When I called the service department at the dealer, they were unaware of the issue. I am thankful I wasn't driving the car when it happened which would have been really dangerous, but now I have an undriveable car that's less than a year old with pieces of glass everywhere.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda HR-V. The contact stated while driving at approximately 40 MPH she heard an abnormal bang or popping sound. The contact looked into her rearview mirror and saw that the entire rear windshield had shattered. The contact stated that the entire left side of the rear windshield had appeared to have imploded and there was glass in the rear passenger compartment. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer. The contact stated that the vehicle had not been diagnosed and the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

On 10/9/2023 my back windshield exploded without any type of impact whatsoever. I was driving down a road headed to work driving about 40 mph and without any warning or impact I heard a loud exploding noise and then the entire back glass shattered into thousands of pieces. No back windshield wiper or no back defogger was being used at the time either. This happened without any type of warning or any type of incident at all. The noise this made would be enough to startle a driver and cause an accident not to mention the shattered glass that was everywhere. I have contacted the dealer where I purchased the car new and at first was told by the head of their service department that they had never heard of anything like this and that my insurance should cover it. After calling back a second time their receptionist acknowledged that yes they were aware of the problem and two other people had brought their HRVs in with the same thing happening to them. She said their sales manager would be giving me a call back. At this time I have not heard back. I have taken numerous photos of the damage and my insurance company has agreed to make the repairs even though this damage is clearly a defect in this Honda product. Numerous other incidents can be found online.
