Safety Concern Report: 2024 GMC Sierra Gear Shifter Obstruction ⸻ Vehicle Information: 2024 GMC Sierra [Specify 1500/2500/3500] [Optional: VIN Number] ⸻ Description of the Problem: I am writing to report a design concern with my 2024 GMC Sierra. The location and height of the gear shifter on this vehicle significantly obstruct the driver’s view of the center infotainment screen and console, especially while seated in a normal, upright driving position. The gear shifter blocks important information such as navigation directions, ETA, media controls, and other on-screen notifications. This forces me to lean forward or reposition myself in an unnatural way while driving, which I believe creates an unnecessary distraction and increases the risk of driver error or loss of situational awareness. I have attempted to adjust my seating position, steering wheel angle, and seat height, but none of these adjustments fully resolve the obstruction. After discussing this issue with other owners online, I found that multiple GMC Sierra owners have experienced the same visibility problem. Some have even resorted to aftermarket modifications to address the design flaw. I believe this is a design oversight that affects safe vehicle operation. I respectfully request that GMC and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration review this issue for potential corrective action. ⸻ Requested Action: Please investigate this safety concern and consider potential solutions, such as a recall, design revision, or retrofit option to improve screen visibility without forcing the driver into unsafe driving postures. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Windshield issues. Small debris creates significant chips and cracks on windshield. In 30 years of owning vehicles I have never had a chip. Had this vehicle one year and 3 significant cracks and three chips. Anything that hits the windshield does damage. Very dangerous issue that needs addressed. A windshield is a safety issue and one that cracks so easily is completely unsafe!

When in a dark area with little to no lights the backup camera is unusable. The taillights/reverse lights do not put off enough light to provide the camera with the lighting it needs to see behind the vehicle in dark situations. If I am in an urban area with a lot of light pollution the camera works fine, but not when I am in a rural are with no lights.

Warning chimes and tones go silent intermittently, thus not providing audible alerts to the driver of vehicle problems and/or warnings. The problem has been reported and confirmed by a GM dealership. The dealership confirmed that there is a bulletin within the GM system that there is a problem however there is no current fix. This problem has existed for over 10 months of ownership. There is no warning that this has occurred other than there is no warning chimes/tones, only visual indicators.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 3500. The contact stated that the exterior lights of the vehicle were flashing erratically, and the tailgate was opening unintendedly. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced erratic transmission shifts, and the vehicle was jerking and made an abnormal clunking sound. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to a truck stop and parked the vehicle. The contact stated that the battery became fully drained while parked with the windows rolled down in snowy weather. The contact stated that after waiting 6 hours for AAA to arrive, the vehicle jump-started. The contact stated that the battery had drained on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the two batteries needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted, and the vehicle overheated while driving. The contact stated that GMC OnStar was contacted and informed the contact that diagnostic trouble codes related to the transmissions were retrieved. The vehicle was taken to another dealer Weston Buick GMC (22555 SE Stark St, Gresham, OR 97030) to be diagnosed. The vehicle was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired and remained out of the contact's State of residence. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and covered vehicle rental expenses that allowed the contact to return to their residence. The contact stated that the vehicle was used for load transportation, and the failure had caused both the contact and her husband to be stranded while delivering loads, which caused lodging expenses and loss of wages. The failure mileage was unknown.

I have received the notice about the recall and now I am just worried because I have a wife and two-year-old child in my truck. I don't want the engine issue to happen while they are in the truck and increases the risk to get into an accident if the engine fails. I have tried to schedule an appointment with my dealership and from the date I received notice on 04/28/2025. They stated I have to call back in two weeks which should be unacceptable because how about if the engine fails within the two weeks and causes even more issues for me and my family. This should be approached much quicker and fix the matter asap.

Purchase the truck [XXX]. In January of 2025 it started to feel like the engine was slipping. Near the end of February, it was getting worse and the locks started locking/unlocking on their own. The vehicle stalled two separate times while driving on a main road. The first couple days of March, the car stalled, again on the road while the locks went crazy. Then, on [XXX], after I had pulled out of my driveway in my neighborhood, my car completely shut down. We had to have the truck towed to Coyle GMC, in Clarksville, Indiana. And, as of May 1st, it is still there. We have been told they need some cap for the transmission and they don't know when they will get it. They offered to give us a new transmission, but they don't know when they'll get it. I am making car payments on a car that I have not had since May 7th. Unfortunately, because I drive my car for work, it had it's 32000 miles on it, so I can't turn it in for the lemon law. I'm very lucky that my son and I were not injured when the car stalled in the middle of the road. This is an ongoing issue with GMC, and I think it should be illegal that they were selling these trucks. I have a brand new truck that I haven't driven in 2 months. While on freeway going 75 mph, GMC installed soft tonneau cover came loose from forward anchor points and starting flapping loudly in wind and without quickly stopping would have flown off truck and hit surrounding vehicles.

On April 21, 2025 around 11pm, I was entering my neighborhood, I was slowing to a stop, the truck shut off, shifted to neutral on its own. Clusters were still on though, no error codes other than instruction to turn ignition back on. I tried for over 20 minutes with no luck. I placed the truck in park and shut it off after that I couldn't get it change back to neutral. Was on the phone with onstar and recorded it. Eventually it turned on with check engine light, made it home. On April 22, 2025, I dropped it off at Classic Buick GMC 16835 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77094. Service rep informed me I will require a new engine as there are metal shavings in the oil filter as a result of worn cam shaft bearings. They have had the truck at their shop since the incident.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 3500. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, there was a loud pop and the vehicle jolted, after which the vehicle started to lose motive power. The contact was able to pull over to the shoulder of the roadway, where the failure persisted. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission valve body. The vehicle was not repaired due to a lack of parts availability. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 63,000.

I had an engine failure with a complete loss of power while driving on a state highway early on 12/13/24. No lights, hazard lights, nothing would turn on for over 10 minutes, then once started my truck said "shut off engine, low oil pressure". There was a bearing failure that sent metal fragments all through the engine. My truck went into the dealership on 12/17/24 and i received it back with a new engine on 4/18/25. It has the same L87 engine with the same recommended oil as before the recall. I asked GMC to buy it back from me because it's neither dependable or safe after what happened. I was refused without being given a reason.

I leased a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate with the 6.2L V8 engine. The vehicle experienced multiple engine-related issues over time, including stalling on [XXX], and again in early 2025. On [XXX], the engine completely failed while I was driving on the highway. The truck suddenly shut down, forcing me to pull over in a dangerous situation. It was towed to North Bay Cadillac, where they confirmed the engine needed to be fully replaced. They also stated this issue is related to a known engine defect affecting 6.2L engines across GM vehicles. The vehicle has been in the shop for extended periods and is currently undergoing repairs estimated to take over a month. GM provided a loaner vehicle after 12 days, but I remain financially responsible for a defective truck that posed a serious safety risk. No warning lights were present before the failure. I am requesting that this issue be formally documented due to the severity of the safety hazard and the widespread nature of this engine problem.
