CERTAIN 2011-2012 MODEL YEAR CHEVROLET EXPRESS AND GMC SAVANA VEHICLES, AND CHEVROLET SILVERADO AND SUBURBAN, AND GMC SIERRA AND YUKON XL 2500 SERIES VEHICLES, ALL EQUIPPED WITH A 10.5" REAR AXLE, MAY HAVE A CONDITION IN WHICH THE REAR AXLE RIGHT-HAND SIDE BEARING ADJUSTER CLIP AND BOLT MAY COME LOOSE WITHIN THE REAR AXLE. IF THIS OCCURS, A GRINDING NOISE AND A VEHICLE VIBRATION WOULD BE NOTICEABLE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. IF THE ADJUSTOR OR BOLT PUNCTURES THE DIFFERENTIAL COVER PAN, A FLUID LEAK COULD DEVELOP. IF ENOUGH FLUID WERE TO LEAK OUT, THE DRIVER MAY HEAR INCREASING NOISE, ADDITIONAL VEHICLE VIBRATION, AND SMELL BURNT AXLE LUBRICANT.   This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicle starts and stalls on the first initial start after the replacement of the Theft Deterrent Module. Technician will need to use the scan tool to check Manufactures Enable Counter. If the number is anything other than zero the Manufactures Enable Counter will need to be reset. To reset the Manufactures Enable Counter counter, the ignition key can be cycled the number equal to the Manufactures Enable Counter counter.

  This Preliminary Information communication advises the technician about the calculation and operation of the engine oil life monitor. The monitor calculates the percent of oil life remaining, based on 3 pathways. The first pathway for oil life calculation is engine revolutions. The second pathway for oil life calculation is the mileage form the last rest for all General Motors powertrains except the Volt. The third pathway for oil life calculation is the amount of time the oil is in the engine. The Volt uses a 2 year timer instead of 1 year. It also uses the engine revolution counter. It does not use the mileage pathway to count down.

Technician may also find a Diagnostic Trouble Code P0521 in the Engine Control Module. Technician should follow all published Service Information diagnosis. When using a scan tool if the oil pressure is low but the oil pressure at the oil filter housing is correct, technician should inspect the Valve Lifter Oil Filter for debris/sludge that could be restricting oil flow to the oil pressure sensor. Technician should remove the Valve Lifter Oil Filter and clean it. If the Valve Lifter Oil Filter cannot be cleaned replace it.
