  THIS PRELIMINARY INFORMATION COMMUNICATION PROVIDES INFORMATION TO THE TECHNICIAN ON THE STEPS TO DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR VEHICLE WITH POOR HEAT. TECHNICIAN WILL REMOVE THE TEMPERATURE ACTUATOR AND INSPECT FOR CRACKS. IF THE SHAFT IS CRACKED IN ONE PLACE, INSTALL A #4 HOSE CLAMP OVER THE TEMPERATURE VALVE SHAFT. IF THE SHAFT IS CRACKED IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE OR A PIECE IS MISSING, THE TEMPERATURE VALVE MUST BE REPLACED.

IF THESE CONNECTIONS ARE LOOSE, THE CUSTOMER MAY EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM, MAY RECEIVE A BATTERY CHARGING MALFUNCTION MESSAGE ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, MAY RECEIVE A LOW BATTERY INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, OR A DEAD BATTERY. IF THE BATTERY CABLE CONNECTIONS REMAIN LOOSE OVER TIME, EXTREME HEAT CAN BE GENERATED AT THESE CONNECTIONS AND COULD BE A FIRE HAZARD. DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT, AND IF NECESSARY, SERVICE THE BATTERY CABLE CONNECTIONS AT THE FUSED JUNCTION BLOCKS AND THE GENERATOR OUTPUT TERMINAL.

  15116A - CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM (REVISED PART SECTION AND SERVICE PROCEDURE). VEHICLES MAY HAVE BEEN BUILT WITH A HOOD STRIKER THAT MAY FRACTURE OVER TIME FROM CORROSION. DURING AN EXTENDED DURABILITY TEST, THE HOOD STRIKER FAILED TO RETAIN THE HOOD IN A CLOSED POSITION. IF THE HOOD IS NOT RETAINED IN A CLOSED AND LOCKED POSITION, THE HOOD MAY OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED, WHICH MAY BLOCK THE DRIVER’S VISION, POTENTIALLY INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. DEALERS ARE TO REPLACE THE ORIGINAL HOOD STRIKER WITH A REVISED ASSEMBLY.
