Driving at normal highway speeds, "service parking brake", "service engine", and "electronic stability control" lights illuminated on the dash with no prior warning. When attempting to accelerate, to maintain highway speed there was noticeable roughness to the engine along with a tapping sound. I slowed and made the trip back to my home under reduced power. The vehicle was towed to the dealer the following day per the dealer's service advisor instructions. Issue was diagnosed as a collapsed lifter, bent lifter rod and damaged cam lobe. Total repair cost exceeded $10,000. Internet search of this issue reports a number of drivers reporting similar issues with the Chevrolet 5.3 liter engine. If this issue had occurred in a more congested traffic area it could have caused an accident when my engine power was suddenly reduced without warning.

While driving on a residential side street my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (81,996 miles) suddenly lost power steering and braking with no waring. Several messages appeared in the dash and the check engine light illuminated. I was able get the vehicle safely to the shoulder and put in park without power steering or brakes. At this point the engine stalled and would not restart. The vehicle was towed to the nearest Chevy dealer on 10/29/2025. The technician verified the loss of power steering, brakes, and several other codes and diagnosed the issue as corroded engine grounding straps per GM bulletin #23-NA-201. The grounding straps were replaced and the codes cleared. The technician test drove the vehicle and verified normal operation after the repair. I was responsible for paying the full cost of these repairs as my vehicle was out of warranty. I feel incredibly fortunate that this happened on a residential side street with no traffic. Had this failure happened on the expressway while pulling my 4,000 lb trailer, this could have been a fatal accident if I suddenly lost power steering, brakes and had the engine stall like it did. I see multiple complaints for this issue on the NHTSA website and the GM TSB for this issue dates back to 2023. I am shocked that this is not a nationwide recall yet. It is a significant safety threat to the driver and others. I also know this is not an isolated incident, as my service advisor at the dealer suggested it was probably the grounding straps before the technician even inspected my vehicle. It was pretty clear from our conversation that I was not the first vehicle they had repaired with this issue.

my 2020 High Country Deluxe 6.2 L87 GM Motor: At Every Cold startup, the engine sound is erratic and sounds like metal on metal for internal combustion for approximately 2 seconds until the newly designed two-stage, variable displacement vane-type pump oil sump pump. The biggest issue that I have with this design is, with a 2 stage pump, depending on the engine rpm, according to GM is Possible lower psi to pump the oil to the top end Valve assembly. In addition, the OW/20 oil IMHO is too thin and does not have the Viscosity to lubricate the motor properly. GM Fix (for 2021 -2024 L87 6.2 motors was to change the viscosity to 5W/30 Supercar Synthetic oil, add a leaf to the owners manual to dictate the oil viscosity change and changing the oil cap from 0W/20 to 5W30. 10-speed Hydra-Matic 10L80: Hard upshifts and downshifts intermittently and confusion of proper gears. There is a TSB regarding this specific Valve Body and torque converter issues. Finally: When deactivating DFM Random cylinders as needed by ECM-TCM-BCM, the lifters are staying in the collapsed state and cant return to full height resulting in bent push rods, rocker arm damage, Camshaft damage, crankshaft damage and Catastrophic engine Failure. It now seems that NHTSA has issued a New Federal Probe into the remaining 2019-2021 L87 6.2 motors.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving 71 MPH with cruise control engaged, the vehicle experienced braking and power steering failure. The Traction Control, Brake, Parking, Antilock Braking System, Electronic Fuel Control, and Check Engine warning lights were illuminated. Additionally, the Brake Assist failure, Steering failure, and Trailer Brake failure messages were displayed. The contact shifted into neutral and coasted over to the side of the road. After turning off the vehicle for approximately an hour, the contact was able to restart the vehicle and drove 40 MPH back to the residence. The contact stated that after the failure, the vehicle had to be shifted into neutral, and then the parking brake was activated to come to a stop. The contact stated that a diagnostic test confirmed the steering and brake failures. The contact used a diagnostic tool to retrieve DTC: C0580. An appointment was scheduled with the dealer, but the vehicle was not yet diagnosed. The contact discovered information related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V116000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic), but the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer had not been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

Front left cv axle is making a noise like a metal to metal noise. There was a recall on the 2019 for the same reason. Mine is a 2020. Same problem.

Without warning (no warning lights or previous mechanical indications) the power steering failed making it extremely difficult to turn the steering wheel. Fortunately this happened while I was parking and not on the highway. The truck had approximately 48,000 miles on it at the time. (8/30/25) Repairs required replacing the rack and pinion steering and a heavily corroded "grounding strap". Repair cost was appx $3500

Summary: While driving, the transmission intermittently fails to shift and the truck has locked up and screeched to a complete halt approximately four times, creating a sudden stop/near rear‑end‑collision risk. Details & timeline: First symptoms were around 55,010 miles. On 10/13/2024 the Chevrolet dealer performed “SERVICE TRANSMISSION GM” (fluid & filter), but the condition continued. In April 2025, a shop documented DTC P0700 & P2727 (pressure‑control solenoid), burnt transmission fluid, and clutch material in the pan, and recommended replacing the transmission, transmission cooler, and cooler lines. Earlier, the transmission control module was reprogrammed, and oil cooler lines were replaced, but the truck still intermittently fails to shift while driving. The check engine light has illuminated during some events. Engine safety concern: During the same period the engine oil was found very low/“no oil on dipstick” with no external leaks; an oil‑consumption test was recommended, raising concern about internal engine damage and possible contamination from the transmission failure. Safety impact: The lock‑up / abrupt stop events occurred while the vehicle was in motion at approximately [~speed and road type, e.g., 35–55 mph on city/secondary roads], forcing hard braking by vehicles behind me. This presents a risk of sudden loss of propulsion and crash. Frequency: About four lock‑up events so far; shifting failures are intermittent and ongoing. Current status: Vehicle at ~73,000 miles. A Chevrolet dealer is being asked to perform a factory diagnosis and to submit a manufacturer goodwill/warranty review.

Just recently my power steering started cutting in and out in parking lots. I have seen that there is a ongoing investigation into steering problems with these trucks. I have not took it to a shop, because it just started and has only done it in parking situations. There are no lights or warning codes on the dash. It was about two weeks ago that it started. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I just would not like to experience it failing on the road.

The contact owns a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was shaking and vibrating abnormally. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated the failure was a recurring failure. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer and the contact was informed that the oil level was low, and oil was added. The dealer had not diagnosed the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The contact had been checking the oil level and was constantly adding oil. The contact stated that the same dealer had changed the spark plugs and fuel injectors in January 2025. Recently the contact was unable to start the vehicle, and the vehicle was towed to the same dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed; however, the dealer advised that the failure might have occurred due to a failure with the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 136,888.

Dear NHTSA Office of Defects Investigation: I am filing this formal complaint regarding General Motors' failure to provide a timely remedy for safety recall XXX and GM's inadequate response to a catastrophic transmission defect that has affected my vehicle twice, resulting in complete transmission lockup while driving at highway speeds. *SAFETY INCIDENT HISTORY My 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has experienced the transmission control valve defect described in recall XXX on two separate occasions, both while driving at approximately 65 mph on the highway. Each incident resulted in complete rear wheel lockup, creating an immediate life-threatening situation. Following the second failure, I had the vehicle towed to Huffines Chevrolet Plano [XXX] ) on August 18, 2025. UNREASONABLE DELAY IN RECALL REMEDY As of today, October 6, 2025, my vehicle has remained at the dealership for 49 days with absolutely zero action taken toward repair. The vehicle has not been evaluated, diagnosed, or repaired. The dealer states they have only one transmission technician to handle the massive volume of recalled Silverado trucks affected by this defect. On [XXX], while driving ~65 mph, my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Duramax experienced a sudden transmission lock-up, nearly causing a crash. The event caused severe internal transmission damage, leaving the truck unsafe and inoperable. This is the exact defect described in NHTSA Recall #24V-797 (GM Recall N242454440), which states that valve body wear can cause rear-wheel lock-up. My truck stored P0700 and P2820, which directly indicate a valve body failure. GM refuses to repair my vehicle under Special Coverage N242454441 (15 years/150,000 miles) because code P0747 did not set, even though my failure clearly matches the defect. I requested a hydraulic valve body leak test, the only way to confirm the defect, but the dealer refused, saying they only scan codes. GM must perform this test at no cost, as required by federal recall laws. GM’s denial leaves a known safety defect unrepaired, violating federal recall obligations and putting drivers at risk. NHTSA action is needed to require GM to repair vehicles like mine, regardless of which DTC is stored. Several times my transmission has began to shift hard miss gears while hitting the brakes. Lose of power/hard shifts/ not shifting when it’s supposed to/jerking and or harsh shifting slipping delay in shifting slams into gear check engine light comes on after check engine light is on it continues until codes r deleted and or battery power is disconnected. This is a problem with codes like 0700/0716/0796 for the tranny control system sticking malfunctioning happens several times in the last year about every 3-4 months
