  14314 - Special Coverage. Certain 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, Pontiac G5, Solstice, Saturn Sky, and 2008-2009 Chevrolet HHR SS vehicles may have a condition in which the steering wheel airbag coil wires to the driver airbag may become chafed on a sharp edge of the steering wheel horn plate. In vehicles with this condition, the airbag indicator lamp may be continuously or intermittently illuminated in the instrument panel cluster, and DTC codes B0012 or B0013 may be stored in the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. If this condition is not corrected and a chafed wire were to ground to the horn plate, the driver airbag may not deploy in the event of a vehicle crash. Dealers are to install woven polyester electrical tape (PET) tape around the two yellow SIR wires and the metal horn plate to prevent a grounding condition from developing. Also, if the airbag coil wires are determined to be damaged, dealers are to replace the steering wheel airbag coil.

  This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that are travelling from Canada to the United States. While in the United States they are unable to receive Turn-by-Turn directions. Due to the existing cellular provider not having roaming agreements in areas outside of Canada to support transmitting of the packet data required for Turn-By-Turn feature to operate. The customer has 3 options while traveling through the United Sates. First if the vehicle is equipped with a navigation radio they can request a "Destination Download" to the vehicle. Second if the customer uses the OnStar RemoteLink app they can send the directions to the vehicle. The third option would be to have the vehicle loaded with a "500 phone number" The customer will no longer be able to use their Hands Free Calling minutes when the new 500 phone number is loaded. If a customer chooses to restore Hands Free Calling in the future a new phone number will be assigned to the vehicle; previous phone numbers are not available.

  14632A - Special Coverage (part name revised). On some vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission, the vehicle?s transmission shifter may not properly transmit an electrical signal that allows the ignition key to be turned counter clockwise past the accessory mode to the ?LOCK? position after the vehicle has been shifted into park. If this occurs, the ignition key cannot be removed from the ignition cylinder without depressing the manual release plunger located on the underside of the steering column as described in the owner?s manual. A key left in the accessory position for an extended period of time may result in severe battery drain and a possible no start condition. In most cases, dealers are to replace the automatic transmission shifter. This repair will be made at no charge to the customer. However, the service procedure also requires dealers to utilize the Ignition Key Cannot Be Inserted, Rotated, or Removed from the Ignition Lock Cylinder diagnostic information table in SI to eliminate other possible causes before replacing the automatic transmission shifter.

Technician should inspect the respective intake or exhaust camshaft reluctor to see if it has spun on the camshaft. The reluctor cannot be repositioned so the camshaft must be replaced. The new camshafts come with the reluctor already pressed on in the correct position.
